Pain management

How is it possible but the government of the United States, the Congress and the Senate in the President pasted a law forbidding the Drug Enforcement Agency from investigating the manufacturers of opioids? I for one, do not believe that an epidemic that killed 200,000 people iwas caused soley by the prescription pads of doctors. I for one, believe it is possible but the drug manufacturers are selling their drugs out the back door into organized crime for resale on the street. This would not be the first time this has happened. For those of you old enough to remember Quaaludes from the 1970s, a downer that was very popular with the heavy party set, ended up being banned by the manufacturer put out of business because of every seven pills they manufactured they sold five of them illegally to drug dealers. Please someone enlighten me, why do the drug manufacturers need to be protected from the Drug Enforcement Agency if they're not doing anything wrong? Don't believe me? Search Google for when did the government pass a law to prevent the drug enforcement agency from investigating the opioid manufacturers. You will find an article in the Washington Post detailing the entire Affair from a few years ago.

Stop wondering, all you have to see how this or any other government works. Money and influence and who is in charge of that government. Since I had to deal with being made addicted by a prescribed med, Fentynal, I did a lot of research on this very problem. Who aloud this situation to happen in the first place. To me that would be the pharmaceutical companies, the FDA, and the AMA. The pharmaceutical companies have lobbyists in Washington DC to influence the FDA, Senators and Congress. They can even influence the American Medical Association. You don’t have to be selling any of this stuff on the street illegally, doctors are their drug dealers. They have a captive audience and needy people who need pain relief. From what I have read about, the pharmaceutical companies used their reps. and sold doctors on false claims that this crap was a good idea to use on people who had chronic pain problems. The reality is it was never intended to be used for this purpose. It was suppose to be used for terminally ill cancer patients and short term use for after surgery. The FDA aloud this to happen. The AMA’s part is to me worse. They had to have known what Fentynal was and how strong it was, They are doctors. They also aloud the these unqualified doctors to set up these pain clinics. From what I researched, anyone who had a medical license could do this and the certification process was a joke. To be a heart specialist, there is a lot of training beyond just having a medical license to be certified, these so called pain specialists had known. A recipe for disaster. I know, I went to one of these places. It was no more than a place to get drugs. I don’t find this at all amusing but just ironic. After busting these CEO’s and fining those pharmaceutical companies, and there are all these lawsuits still pending, these companies have already figured out a way to make up for their losses. They have been granted the rights to make the drug that counteracts the overdose from this crap. Who do you think approved that?

My experience was much different. When I needed pain meds it seemed like I needed a mask and a gun to get them. No one, but no one encouraged me to take them. I knew all about addiction before I began. Now it's a permanent thing,I have a pump. in the past I went on them and off them with no withdrawal symptoms. I made sure I never took enough to completely extinct my pain as I knew that any drugs left over would get me high and could lead to addiction. Perhaps I'm one of a few like myself but I have two close friends who have had the same experience with oxycontin and morphine respectively. I had fentanyl patches for a short time but they didn't work well for me. I'm afraid I'm a pretty tough sell on the idea of accidental addiction.

My experience was different then yours. I had rectal fissure repair surgery and the surgeon permanently damage my nerves in that area. That left me in excruciating pain with no relief. This doctor made a few other errors which he either didn’t recognize or did and tried to hide them from me. He never told me about that during the surgery, I stopped breathing. I didn’t find out about that until 4 years later. The first neurologist I saw at this time told me about my nerve damage and why I had peripheral nerve damage that happened at the same time as that surgery. This doctor told me as experienced as that colon rectal surgeon was, there was no way he should have missed this diagnosis. That surgeon told me that all that pain I was in was due to a hemorrhoid I had and he didn’t know why my feet suddenly started hurting. He also gave no consideration to the fact that I have thyroid disease and he didn’t realize that I already had developed Central Sensitization Syndrome. That is something rare and most doctors aren’t aware of. My pain is worse than most people experience. I was dealing with that pain for those 4 years without any pain meds. The doctors I was seeing were having me use PreperationH. Dumb idea. Stupid doctors. I started off with injections for the nerve damage and they didn’t work. They didn’t work because of the bullshit pain specialist and clinic I was told to go to by my medical insurance company. That same place then prescribed that patch. I never used any other pain med because I was having problems with my digestive system after that surgery. The dumbass doctor idea was that because I wasn’t ingesting a pill, there would be less of a problem. In the entire time I was using that patch, I only saw that one doctor and the rest of my visits to that pain clinic, I saw a nurse. My fault was that I was in too much pain, to check into what Fentynal was. No one told me that it was a synthetic opiate and that it was 6 times stronger than heroine. I was on a very low dosage,25 mg and never went beyond that even though that nurse wanted me to. The only reason that dosage was sufficient for me, and I didn’t know this until later, was I became chemically sensitive when the Central Sensitization Syndrome happened. The only accident was me going to a place that cared more about making money than cared about me. My wake up call happened when I had a pancreatitis attack which nearly killed me. I had no medical problems with my pancreas. All the doctors at the hospital I was at couldn’t find a reason for that attack as my pancreas appeared healthy. The result of that attack caused my pancreas to stop functioning and I started starving for a whole year. I lost over 40 lbs. I was referred to a very good gastroenterologist and between the two of us we figured out that the Fentynal was the cause. Tests were never going to show that but none of the other doctors I was sent to including that supposed pain specialist or that nurse I had to see could. To top that off, I was still being prescribed Fentynal. When I decided to detox from that crap and it was just after 4 days into that detox, my pancreas started to function again. Not one of those doctors ever wanted to talk to me again. No apologies from any of them. The pain specialist I see now is a neurologist and very knowledgeable about opiates and Central Sensitization Syndrome and he uses a steroid injection to help me with my nerve damage. The result of that coming off of that Fentynal patch has made that Central Sensitization Syndrome symptoms worse for me. I can no longer use any pharmaceutical drugs for anything now, not even for a short time. I can’t even use natural medications. I can only eat certain natural foods and I will have to do this for the rest of my life. There is no cure or treatment for Central Sensitization Syndrome. You might not believe in accidental addition, but believing in something doesn’t make it real. If I had had the presence of mind and I wasn’t in hell from that excruciating pain and I wasn’t all that trusting in the doctors I was sent to by my medical insurance company, and lied to by that surgeon, things might have turned out better for me. You were just more fortunate than me and didn’t have my circumstances to deal with.

I've been on 90% of the opioids on the market including Fentynal for 2 1/2 years. Presently I'm taking gabapentin 800 mg 3 x daily ( I think it's a waste ). I suffer from PHN for the last 8 years. Never been addicted thank God. Have a spinal cord stimulator ( medtronic ) first one was put in wrong. This seems to help except my r/s neck, shoulder, very sensitive to touch. Sleeping very hard as well as wearing clothes. Have to keep positive. We wake up each day so God Is saying go FORWARD, DON'T STOP LIVING

I'd give it a second think. I have one and it's a life saver. First they did a spinal tap with Dilaudid to make sure that was the right drug and would it work for me. It did so I had the pump implanted. I get 3 to 4 mgs. per day right into my spinal fluid. I control the last mg. in 10 doses. It replace and works better than 32 mgs. Dilaudid oral plus 200 mgs. Oxycontin oral plus 20 mgs valium oral. No side effects, no constipation, no buzz. Saved my life. I still have pain but it is manageable pain. I was also tested for the implanted stimulator, it did not work for me. Good luck I written a lot more about the pump, search wsh66

It was directed to paulbklyn @paulbklyn but could be for anyone. Like I told him. Search under wsh66. I have written extensively about the pump within these forums.
