Morning glucose test - higher when cold?

Can your test be higher if you are cold? We keep our thermostat set at 61 overnight so the house is chilly when I get up. So I sat with a blanket over me for a couple of minutes before taking my blood test and the numbers were lower? Also, I've had a lot a headaches due to barometer changes and was wondering if the headaches can affect my blood tests.

@contentandwell Hi JK I have to cancel a Dr appt he is the neuro Dr . But not going out till this is over . Guess a lot of people will be in same boat. Better be safe the sorry right

@lioness Absolutely. I have an MRI scheduled in April with a follow-up appointment with my oncologist. I suspect that my transplant team will suggest I postpone that.

Katia, I eat $4 a loaf bread that has sprouted grains and sometimes I eat rye bread because it has some flavor. I no longer want white bread at all. I bought a mixed jar of brown rice, wild rice and a little white rice which seems to work well and I put a veggie in it as well. I like sauted mushrooms in the mix. Yes, the weight seems to want to stay on, doesn't it. But I have six months to lose around the waist in order to get into a nice dress for my granddaughter's wedding. I didn't gain at Christmas because I am accustomed to behaving myself and not eating the sweets. I put four pieces of candy in the freezer and just ate them last week. I don't bake cookies anymore. Once in a while I bake muffins with applesauce or apples, or blueberries and low sugar. I miss spaghetti and only have it every few months. I am hungry for a veggie pizza and good ones are hard to find. I eat a lot of salmon. I haven't had ice cream since last May. I will have to have some for a birthday, eventually. I am looking forward to new raised benches for gardening this spring. Dorisena

Dorisena, I've struggled all winter trying to get into gear. However, I've kept 20 of the 30 pounds off so I'm happy about that. Have started walking out doors and have found some of the walking indoors has helped with my endurance. One thing I've found that helps my morning test is fasting from 7 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. My numbers are down by 20 points if I do so. Plus, can't get hungry when I'm sleeping. Stress from this crazy virus has affected my numbers as well. Trying not to let it bother me. Been working on a quilt that was given to my by my mother in law 20 years ago. It was one her aunt made that was given to her. It's very fragile and cannot be used on a bed. I've just sort of tacked it together so I can display it over the back of my davenport. Finished it yesterday. Working on a quilt my granddaughter and I started a couple of years ago. All hand sewn. So far just piecing it together. Can't wait for the weather to warm up a few more degrees so I can start working outside. My son and family may come next week to help tear down a building plus help with other odd jobs. Stay safe. Stay healthy. Katia

I have been reading on the web and have read a few times that cinnamon will reduce blood sugar numbers, so I put a spoonful of Vietnam cinnamon I bought from a wholesale house into a cup of orange herbal tea and chugged it down. I think it lowered my number to 111 which made me happy, but I was busy on the toilet which is o.k. because I do not like constipation. I will drink some more, but maybe not every day and let you know how it goes. I read that there are a couple of types of cinnamon and this I have is really strong flavored. I am going to have my granddaughter get out my exercise bike and make a gym in the basement as she is laid off from her coaching job and could whip some of us into better shape. I will do the exercise bands but can't bend my knee enough for the bike. I am sewing a quilt top for a neighbor who quilts them on her machine and donates them. I also knitted a pair of socks for granddaughter's boyfriend as knitting relaxes me. Dorisena.

@dorisena If you are consuming a lot of cinnamon you should consider switching to Ceylon cinnamon. I purchase it at Amazon but it is also available at Whole Foods. Ceylon cinnamon does not have coumarin in it which is something that can be harmful in large doses. The flavor of Ceylon cinnamon is very much milder so you can use more of it also. I use Ceylon cinnamon in my oatmeal and in my yogurt which are my two most frequent breakfasts. Ceylon cinnamon is also called "true cinnamon".
I find that my doctors will not say that cinnamon is helpful for diabetes, but I believe it is based on my own experience.

Thanks for the information. Warning to folks like me who don't write things down: it's "Ceylon" and shouldn't be considered the same as other cinnamons, including one called, I think, Saigon cinnamon, whose taste I did not enjoy.
