Creams or oils to help alleviate the pain?

Posted by mmvandyke007 @mmvandyke007, Nov 27, 2019

Has anyone had any luck with over the counter creams, oils, etc? Looking for something to help take away the pain of my SFN, even if it's just temporarily.

Hello @mmvandyke007, Welcome to Connect. There is another discussion started on what helps for pain relief from small fiber neuropathy. I'm tagging our moderator @lisalucier to see if we should move your post to the following discussion:

You mentioned you are looking for over the counter creams, oils, etc to provide some pain relief from your small fiber neuropathy. Are you able to share any that didn't help you? or any that helped a little? I'm sure @artscaping, @somisgirl, @rwinney and other members in the discussion may be able to provide some suggestions for you.

Welcome @mmvandyke007, Good afternoon. How long have you had your diagnosis of Small Fiber Neuropathy? Do you know the origin..was it diabetic or from chemo or alcohol? Not that it really matters.....for topicals. If you have a neurologist or other clinician that can write a prescription for lidocaine cream.....that was the most helpful to me. It is compounded by a special pharmacy. It lasted bout 15-20 minutes for me just time to get to sleep. And that was all I had until I found a 3:1 CBD/THC call P&B Releaf Balm. I truly never leave home without it. It works into the skin very well and lasts up to 3 and even four hours.

Please tell me more about your pain and what you currently find somewhat helpful or have tried with little success. Does the SFN show up anywhere else other than your hands? like legs? or feet? or arms?

This is a bit of a tough nut to crack. At Connect, we have quite a few resources and have online conversations with folks from all over the world.

May you be free of suffering today. Chris

Hi Chris, I am in Ca. and planning to purchase some CBD/THC balm. Have you ever tried the stronger 1/3 ratio of CBD to THC or have you found the 3/1 sufficient? My neuropathy in my feet has recently worsened so my timing might be perfect! Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving and a pain-free day/night.

Hi there @helennicola, so nice to see that Hi Chris. First of all.....where are you in CA.? You can go to the website and find the dispensary locations. http://www.papaandbarkley.com. Just down a little bit from the top of the home page, there is a blue banner with Find a Store near you. That should help. You can also contact them directly.

However, here is my best bet for your neuropathy...the 3:1 CBD/THC. I did try the 1:3 CBD/THC and it didn't work at all for me. Because THC, with its euphoric attribute, enhances sensations like hearing(music), sight(art) and taste(pumpkin pie), I found that it also escalates pain, especially the needles and tingles. So my trial ended by washing my hands quickly and going back to the 3:1 CBD/THC. For me, I am very comfortable with that dosage....and you can use it as needed. Happy Thanksgiving. And thank you for your contributions. Be healthy and content. Chris

Thanks for your reply Chris, we are in LA and we did find a dispensary which sold the P & B products where I purchased the 3/1 balm and also a tincture. I was surprised that a stronger THC ratio increased your pain but maybe that makes sense due to one’s heightened senses? I don’t plan to try it until an increase in gabapentin doesn’t help. I will post my results when I do first use it. Helen

For the type of neuropathy that I have the Frankincinse and Myrrh NEUROPATHY rubbing oil from Amazon works very well... I have Erythromelalgia along with neuropathy and I mix the oil with a good face cream. It eases the crazy feelings in my feet and ankles and decreases the burning redness for me. I know that it doesn't work for everybody, but am grateful to have discovered it as it has been the only thing that has made a difference for me. Good luck to you...
