My first A1C since diagnosis 3 months ago!!

Posted by kateia @kateia, Nov 4, 2019

I just wanted to share my excitement. I had my first A1C test today since my diagnostic test in July. July's test was 10.1 Today's test was 5.8!! I was going to be happy with 8!! I can't believe it dropped so fast. No medications. Just eating right and exercising!!! Woo Hoo!! I'll keep plugging along. Still want to get 10 more pounds off before the end of the year!

I was worried all day about what it would be due to taking no medications. So happy the numbers show all the work. We hang in there and go for being healthy and feeling great!!

Congratulations, Kateia!
Thanks for sharing because it shows everyone that diet and exercise is the key to good health, along with a positive attitude. You are not sick. You are making your body healthier with your good choices in life. It is something we want to do the rest of our lives, if we can. Dorisena

I have been thinking lately how we have been trained to believe in taking pills to cure everything and make us well. Yes, antibiotics can do that and pills can correct imbalances, relieve pain, heal rashes, and all sorts of seemingly magic problems. Some of us need to become scientists to keep up with the diseases that crop up. Frankly, I would rather sew, play the piano, and bake for hobbies. But I continue to read and try to educate myself to keep this old body going as well as I can and feel reasonably comfortable. if I make it to age 90, I plan to sit in my rocker, drink some wine, watch the beautiful sunset, and perhaps do a little knitting. Also, I would like to listen to some Bach, Mozart, or, my favorite, Rachmaninov music. Today I will eat right, exercise, and go vote. Maybe I'll read a little. Dorisena

Dorisena, Your positive attitude is wonderful!! I only wish that I can keep mine positive as long as you have!!! Yes, I'm hoping that by 65 I'm taking pictures and writing! Not a book, more a journal. I agree with you. We have to read up on everything and be very cautious as to what our choices are. I have seen so many "cures" to diabetes in the past three months that it makes your head spin. I went the less expensive route. I was blessed to find a Hy-Vee dietician that was giving free A1C tests this week. Otherwise I would have had to pay my $75.00 co-pay plus the cost of the test. We have to keep our eyes open all the time. The blood tests that the doctor took in July when I was diagnosed was almost $1,200.00 Of course I didn't find out until I got the bill. I've asked to see what the breakdown of the costs were for the tests. I can get a blood panel any time at our local hospital for $20.00. This made me very curious. I only asked for A1C, blood panel, C-reactive protein, and thyroid tests. Can't believe they would be THAT expensive. God bless your day.

@kateia That's wonderful! You must feel so good about your great results. I have an A1c coming up and I do not expect it to be that good at all. I fractured my femur in July so my exercise was limited and being around the house too much I snacked too much also. 🙁 I am dreading this.

@contentandwell Since my feet are so painful and exercise has basically ceased, I also have felt sorry for myself and snacked and been a couch potato. My A1C was up in September and my endocrinologist retired, but I can go to a nurse practitioner and get my A1C in late December, and I also dread seeing the number. I know I am over the moon high. I am so mad at myself and have to deal with getting back with the program. I don't know what I am going to do about my lack of exercise. Everything is just is chaos.

@retiredteacher carol, it sounds as if you and I are in the same boat. I have gotten back to my club in the last two weeks, but too little too late. I am dreading this. If he wants to put me on a medication I will tell him I would like to hold off to see if I can get it under control with diet.
