Left Bundle Branch Block

Posted by Mern @mern, Oct 4, 2019

The past 7 years I have dealt with serious health issues, cervical fusion, RA, Barrett’s Esophagus with dysplasia, CSF leak from ruptured peri neural cysts, major spinal surgery to treat the leaks. I continue to have right sided pressure. In June I failed a pre-op EKG. I was diagnosed with LBBB. I have seen a cardiologist who advised “wait and watch.” He prescribed no medication. My pulse ranges from 39 to 112, O2 sats 89-96. Some days are OK and I stay in the high 40s - 105. I struggle to be active, but my “active” is a far cry from myself 7 years ago. I will see the cardiologist in 4 weeks. I want to treat the LBBB; it’s exhausting. Any advice is welcome.

Hi @sharonp51,
I'm glad to see that your Lisinopril was increased and that you feel better. Lisinopril is an ACE Inhibitor and is used for disorders such as this. I've also taken an ACE Inhibitor (Enaparil) for a number of years and have had periodic increases in dosage. It really helps to relax your veins and arteries Here is some information from Mayo Clinic's website about this type of drug, https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/high-blood-pressure/in-depth/ace-inhibitors/art-20047480.

When will your follow up tests be done?

One test is the end of the week and the other is Sept 9. That was the earliest I could get. I can post when I have results. In the meantime, feeling better. Thanks

My Echo and PET stress test came back essentially negative !!! I am so relieved! My follow up is in 6 months. Looks like the increase in medication did the trick with the LBBB. Thank you all for your support

So glad for this great report, @sharonp51!

I've had LBBB for years and years and my heart is still functioning with good meds. I'm really glad that Connect could support you through this time.

My son, 14 yr old, lost approx 30lbs (from 140 lbs-114 lbs) a few months ago. Pediatrician sent us to see an E.D, team. This meeting revealed bradycardia as low as 50. Weight at that time was 127. Weight now up to 131 and trying to get back to "normal". Physical trainer following him at school as my son wants to be able to play football. We also drive to Charleston (live in SC) once a week to check progress on weight. Last couple of days, I noticed he has been sleepier than usual. Per my pulse ox, he is bradycardic running 48.
My question: Did he awaken a sleeping beast with the weight loss? Can we return to an asymptomatic state with more weight gain? And lastly, if he continues to be symptomatic, what are treatment options? He's 14. I can't begin to wrap my mind around any surgical intervention.
Thanks in advance,

Hi @angela33101, I wanted to welcome you to Mayo Clinic Connect and offer my sympathy as a mom. It is always difficult to know that your child is going through something that you can not fix on your own! You will notice that I moved your conversation to a discussion that is currently in progress about Left Bundle Branch Blocks. This will help connect you with some of the members that have gone through similar health diagnoses and hopefully afford you the opportunity to ask pertinent questions about what your 14 year old son is currently facing.

@angela33101, was your son involved with sports prior to these symptoms and diagnoses? Did the ED, pediatrician or physical trainer advise that it was ok to play full contact sports with this condition?

Hello @angela33101, I would like to add my welcome to that of @amandaburnett. I'm glad that you joined this conversation.

You said in your post that, " Pediatrician sent us to see an E.D.,= team." Does this refer to an eating disorder medical team? It sounds as if he is making progress in that he has gained some weight that he had previously lost. Is a cardiologist part of that team?

Here is some information that you might find helpful from Mayo Clinic's website on eating disorders, https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/eating-disorders/symptoms-causes/syc-20353603

I would give your son some time to gain a bit more weight, deal with his eating disorder before expecting major changes in his health and energy level. It can be hard to ascertain the type of heart damage that might have occurred from the weight loss. Does the ED team offer any suggestions as to the long-term effects of his weight loss?
