@burningfeetinphoenix...here. I started a new discussion as in looking through the discussions, I could find no discussion on research, clinical trials, published papers etc, on SFN. I thought this might be a new forum for discussion. I'll let the moderators decide where to put it. I have trouble finding posts as I am new to using this forum... only recently being diagnosed with SFN which I would say was "acute SNF" as I never had a symptom of it until one day in Early April 2019 my feet started burning. I've seen a while back a question came in on types of PN and types of SFN. I finally found the dissertation on SFN that defines its different kinds and symptoms with acronyms. Well, I found it and here it is:

Interesting that Dr. Levine is with Phoenix Neurological Associates where I am going on October 11th after a several month wait. They are involved in several clinical trials for idiopathic SFN. I am anxious to finally be seeing a neurologist having gotten nowhere with the podiatrist. I am also anxious to talk to them about their research and the clinical trials. Still hopeful! Pam

My Neurologist is Dr. Charles E. Argoff who is the 3rd listed author who collabotated on this book with Dr. Todd Levine in 2017. It's fantastic that you will be meeting with Dr. Levine soon. I meet with Dr. Argoff Wed of this week. Ready with my research and list of questions and concerns!

I will be curious to hear how you make out. I'll post my findings and next plan of pain management, and know you will do the same.

It's pretty cool that I'm in New York and you're in Arizona and there is this connection. Good luck!!

@rwinney Rachel, I see you are a patient of Dr.Argoff. I have started seeing a neurologist who is also in the Albany Med neurology group. I will be interested to see how you make out at your appointment and I’ll have to get this book for sure. This may help when I see my doctor in October. I came across this book as I get automatic emails for various subjects from several academic journal sites I found it on Amazon. It is expensive but I am willing to tackle it when I am up at night with my burning feet...it is:

"Small Fiber Neuropathy and Related Syndromes: Pain and Neurodegeneration" April 2019 Sung-Tsang Hsieh et al. It should be a challenge!

One can read the free sample in the Amazon Cloud or download to tablet or Kindle. I dis but have not read yet. Preparing for my appointment with the Neurologist this Friday. Lots to do!

Here is some middle of the night reading for those, like me, who are trying to figure out why my feet are on fire and cannot sleep through the night. Interesting take on heat sensation...Got that book I mentioned yesterday and it is a keeper! Very technical but covers all bases...Pam

Just read the paper mentioned in the OP. Not very heartwarming. It always just boilds down to anticonvulsants and antidepressants if you're idiopathic 🙁
