Hi, my husband is going to be having a septal myectomy- what’s the recovery look like? How much time off am I going to need?

I had a septal myectomy last August. I was down for about 4 weeks and had 6 weeks of cardiac rehab. I feel so much better. I wish him the best.

How much time off work did you need? He’s only been at his job for 5 weeks and he’s afraid they will let him go

My husband had the surgery last October, he was in otherwise good physical shape, spent 4 days in hospital 2 days in a hotel and then flew home to California. His recovery was great, took about 4 weeks to get back into the swing of things, did some rehab. We are both retired, but as long as your husband can take of himself then I would think a week off after you get home should be plenty as long as the surgery was without complications.

Thank You! You’ve helped ease my mind. He’s 53 next month, he should recover quickly!

Recovery should be 4-6 weeks. I am 9 weeks post surgery and other than some little back pain am great. I skipped rehab since I could not find out if Medicare would pay and Saint Al's rehab in Idaho could not tell me what it would cost. I just did it on my own at our local rec center gym. They got the ok from Dr's on what I could and could not do. BEST thing is walk as much as possible from day 2. Good luck to your husband...and you. Hardest part for both of you will be getting in and out of bed or the chair NOT using his hands.
