Resound or Oticon?

Good morning everyone. I'm getting new hearing aids and Friday I saw my audiologist. I'm testing Resound first and then I'll try Oticon. She said these two are her "go-to" brands. Has anyone had experience with these two brands, and if so, do you have an opinion about them? It's been awhile since I bought my last pair which were Phonaks. Technology has changed drastically, so the learning curve seems huge to me! I'd appreciate your thoughts and experiences.

I've tried new Resound aids, and found they weren't any better than the five-year old Resounds. I just this week am trying new Signia aids by Siemen's, and they are an engineering failure; too numerous to go into all the disadvantages with them. Anyone out there have a suggestion on another brand that's worth a look? Thanks.

Other quality brands are Oticon, Widex and Phonak. Every brand has numerous options and models. Are you comfortable with the provider you are seeing? Some audiologists sell a variety of brands, while others sell only one brand. Some providers are more skilled at fitting hearing aids than others are. We know hearing aids take some getting used to, and that they are not going to give you perfect hearing. They are 'aids' to better hearing. What are your expectations? What are the specific failures of the aids you're trying?

@julieo4 Apologies because my comment has nothing to do with what you say above. I am only placing it here because yours was the most recent comment and a convenient place to comment since I was having trouble knowing how to introduce a new post with an "operational question". Which is: some comments have a reply options and others have a comment option while I noticed that one was recently posted with no option at all! Could you or someone clarify/educate?

I use Resound hearing aids that I purchased about 6 years ago. I have severe Tinnitius in both ears. I would give Resound a 6 rating on a scale from 1 - 10. I discovered after a few years that the software had been upgraded but the customer must purchase a new pair in order to get the enhancements. I think that is criminal to force a customer to purchase all new hearing aids. It's like requiring a person to purchase a new computer for every software upgrade - it's just not fair. BTW I paid over $6,000 6 years ago - I shutter to think what the price is for a new pair. To be fair they work fairly well and the Resounds do improve my hearing. I am going to test the new Opticon hearing aids due to a rave review from a friend that suffers from Tinnitus as well and was a former Resound customer.

Thanks for the suggestion about the VA. I purposely did not use the VA when I origiinally purchased the hearing aids and the ENT actually recommended the VA as well. I reside in a state where the VA hospital is staffed in part with interns from Duke University so I just might give them a call.

From what I see all audiology (VA and private practice) clinics are understaffed right now. I've experienced both good and bad audiologists in both VA and private practice as well.

Hearing aid technology continues to improve, but it's terribly expensive. No argument there. We as consumers are paying a heavy price for research and development in this field. If everyone who needed and could benefit from hearing aids the price could go down considerably.

I will be most interested in hearing how the Oticon hearing aids work for you compared to the Resound.
