Share your hobby!

What's your hobby with your health condition as it is? Mine is smartphone photography. I have taken some amazing photos this week. One photo is of a bumblebee in my garden (previously shared). Another photo opportunity that I've had just today is the removal of a huge tree from my property (infested with ash tree borers). It was a risk to falling on my home, or my neighbors home. I've never witnessed such an event, removal of a large tree next to a home. I'll try to share a few photos from this past week. Photography is a new passion of mine.

Due to my myasthenia gravis, I moved into the home that I grew up in! I've been making repairs that I admit are frustrating. It's not the situation that I always dreamt of, but I own the home, no mortgage! And it's about the size of a home I can handle given my health situation. Having MG, it's easier in the cold weather, my symptoms worsen when it gets hot. I enjoy 30-50 degrees Fahrenheit. I wish I could do Florida or Arizona, but I can't πŸ™‚

@Erinmfs Love the picture of the bumblebee on the flower . I love anything nature shows me. Is that tree at your house that is coming down?

yes, that tree came out of the back yard on Friday! I was so stressed out! The ash tree was dying, and was a hazard to the electric lines and my house, and the neighbors house. The stress really zonked me, it's now Tuesday, I'm feeling like I'm recovering finally from the stress! I don't want to do that again....

Well, what was some of my livelihood is now a hobby. I like being creative and I have a small area where I grow some flowers and now do some artwork that accumulates in drawing pads and totes. Apartment living has been a huge adjustment after a house. Could no longer care for it and wasn't going to pay someone else to do it for me. My little habitat is my botanical garden, art studio and gallery. Art and playing in the dirt helps to keep me sane. Thanks for asking about hobbies @Erinmfs. Many of us here use creativity to help with various issues.

Erin @Erinmfs, Wow! What a fantastic discussion topic. I love it!! Your photos are beautiful, and I appreciate your 'how to" Tip, too.
Trees coming down, I feel your pain. We had 2 huge ones taken down last fall and it broke our hearts. I am 'crafty' person, too. Can't seem to sit with my hands idle. I am trying my hand at landsacpe quilting. Here is a my 1st attempt. I used strips of fabric and introduced myself to some thread painting. Now that I have my table cleared again, I will be addint the border to make it 20x30 inch. I plan to frame it.

@Erinmfs I thought it was I would worry about it falling on my house also . Can understand the stress you had . Glad you feel better now. You can get back to you hobbies which are lovely gardening and bees. Have you ever thought of being a beekeeper? A friend use to be and collected the honey ,he didn't sell but gave us some all the time.

Hi @lioness , when we lived on a hobby farm (3+ acres), I considered getting some honeybees. my property wasn't big enough though really to accomodate the bees and other things we had going on. πŸ™‚

I really wanted to get a few belted galloway cows back then! A belted galloway cow looks like an oreo cookie, they are black cattle with white in the middle πŸ™‚

@Erinmfs I,ve heard of them but never saw one. Are the dairy or meat cows? My son found one chicken ,couldn't find owner so that chicken we called Domino as the color was this. She laid 550 eggs my husband kept count. When he plowed the garden up in the spring Domino would love getting the worms. She knew when he got the plow out

Hi @lioness , belted galloway cattle are pets I think πŸ™‚ I'm not an expert, but I think they are meat cattle.

My girls did 4H when they were young. We had chickens! I'm a big fan of McMurray Hatchery! I would order baby chicks and raise them. We started with 2 arucanas named Chicken Patty and Foghorn Leghorn. Gorgeous birds that lay blue-green eggs. I would brag at the office that I am a "Poultry Exhibitionist" as we showed our birds at the 4H county fair and won some ribbons. πŸ™‚ I had to wash the birds for the fair, there's a class for that! Wash them in soapy water, then rinse in vinegar water, and then in water with a 'bluing' soltuion (for laundry whites) to give your birds a beautiful white for the fair πŸ™‚ Oh my, we had so much fun!

I've had great success with this hatchery! They will send the birds to you in the mail, check out the beautiful chickens!
