Car crash

Posted by shanamarie22 @shanamarie22, Jun 1, 2019

I was in a car crash a year ago and diagnosed with post concussion syndrome that they believed to go away. For the past year I have had a constant headache that just turns into a migraine sometimes. It’s been causing dizziness appetite changes sleep loss and blurry vision. My doctors just say it’s to deal with my POTS syndrome and my history of migraines. But it’s getting to the point that my head is constantly spinning I can not drive or do any type of work. Places in my head hurt extremely bad without any type of movement just on cue as I wake up. I have been to a neurologist and all she said was that it was my migraine history but I don’t have a migraine all day everyday I have a headache that sometimes turns into one. I am not sure what to do because they all blame my nausea or headaches and everything on my history of pots or migraines

Hi @shanamarie22 that must be so frustrating to be in such discomfort and pain, and find no sympathy from your doctors.

I wanted to tag fellow Connect member @danielad as she has experience with a serious concussion and may be able to offer support. I also wanted to tag @karina77 as she has experience with POTS and may be able to share if she has had any similar experience and symptoms.

Back to you @shanamarie22 how are you currently treating these symptoms? Is there anything that causes them to be more severe?

I was in a car crash years ago I have had 98 surgeries lost both legs, plate in my right arm. and plate in my neck, with screws in my back. I agree with @shanamarie22 I have no compassion from doctors instead they have allowed me to hurt and because I lost my legs I get labeled as a drug addict.

Hi: I empathize with you. There are professionals and strategies to help you heal/cope. (1) In your situation YOU will have to advocate, always nicely.
Begin by suggesting a 'reset' with your current provider. As two people working on the same problem. Where you have a previous history of migraines, try a bit of logical humour: "Yes, I did have migraines in the past: when you were born you probably weighed 7 or 8 #s. Things can get bigger and be affected by a lot of things. Is it possible the accident that caused my head injury can have longer term symptoms?"
(2) Ask about strategies and treatments. Ask for a referral for PT., eye exam by (there is one type that is qualified for head/brain injury), ask to have your pharmasist review all your meds and anything organic/natural/whacked out you take with your symptoms in mind. (3) contact your State Brain Injury Survivors Assn. They are a best resource.
I wish for you much success.
I am five plus years into a different life, i have much to be thankful for, i choose to ignore a lot.
I can write to you, because today is a 'crash &burn day" where the injury wins and i rest till it resets.

I’ve been using ice and heat. Then on other times I’ve had to rest more than normal and I can not do anything that I used to be able to do.

Yeah I was labeled once by a over exaggerator and that I was just making up my pain that it was in my head

Although I can relate to the drug addict stigma, I was most often accused of being drunk. I have Epilepsy. It is incomprehensible to me how judgmental and cruel people can be.
I’m sorry you’ve have to endure this cruelty,
Jake

A doctor said the same thing to my dad in 1955. Unbeknownst to the doctor at the time, he was right. My dad had a brain tumor.
It’s a shame so many people are unable to think before they speak.
(Colleen is probably thinking that about me.)
Take care,
Jake

Hi, @shanamarie22 - wondering how the dizziness, headaches and nausea you talked about have been lately?
