Has anyone heard of having stem cells for hearing loss. Someone talked about having it done but, I cannot find any info?

Hello there. You can find a very good Katherine Bouton article talking about it on psychologytoday.

I have a profound hearing loss and just applied for two studies, one at Columbia university and one at Johns Hopkins. It's with a drug called CGF166. Both are looking for candidates. You must have a severe to profound hearing loss and be in good health between the ages of 29 and 75.

@lindahearing, I thought the Columbia study was on hiatus right now. Was your application accepted? It's part of a three institution study -- Columbia, Hopkins and the University of Kansas. It's not stem cell though. It's tissue regeneration using their drug CGF166.
Here's a description of the trial from the government clinical trials website: https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT02132130

There is an article in the magazine, Scientific American, "Out of the Silence" on gene therapy, December 2018 issue. Here is a quote from that article, "One main test of restored ear function involves exposing the rodents to a sudden, startling noise to see if they jump. Many did: the once deaf mice could hear."

Welcome to Connect, @navazo. I believe this is the article to which you refer:

Navazo, what is your experience with hearing loss?

CGF166 is a virus or derivative but they don't tell you how it works or helps. I was hoping it would five more details and how and why stuff
