Hello @randyvaughan, welcome to Connect. I would like to invite @cobweb, @dixieorleans, and @danielad who have all talked about having stem cell treatments recently. They may be able to share their experience with you regarding what type they chose and what their results were. You may also want to read through the following discussions where they, and many other members, have participated, https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/stem-cell-therapy-for-arthritic-knees/.

@randyvaughan, if you don't mind sharing, have you discussed stem cells as a possible treatment with your medical provider? What is the recovery projection for the meniscus implant?

I don't think stem cells are covered by blue cross blue sheild.

I had a terrible experience with tkr and i am still in pain after 6 years. Meanwhile the left knee needed replaced so i found a Dr in Toledo that looked at my MRI and said i was a candidate for stem cells. No insurance covered the procedure but i went ahead after reviewing the research. This Dr was trained by Regenexx so i looked at their research and had stem cells take from my hip and injected in my knee after being mixed with my blood. I relaxed for 2 weeks and read a lot etc. Since then i have had a blood injection which helps take care of my arthritis. Its been about 3 years and finding i can do everything but play tennis. My friend said she visited Mayo Clinic and they are advising her to do the blood injection first and then stem cells. My insurance has not covered the procedures but i am seeing more insurance in Toledo covering it.
My recommendation is to do your homework and look out for those Drs who buy the stem cells etc. Good Luck.
