Can Mayo help with undiagnosed fatigue and brain fog?

Posted by backyarder1 @backyarder1, Mar 21, 2019

My main problem is almost constant fatigue and what I call brain fog. Doctors haven't been able to figure out a cause. Can Mayo help with something so vague?

Welcome, @backyarder1.
@karina77 is right. You can self-refer to Mayo Clinic. Here is the contact information: http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63
When you call, you can also talk to them about insurance coverage. Mayo Clinic generally doesn't require a doctor's referral. But your insurance might. It's a good idea to check with your insurance company. If you need a referral, we can help you through the process.

I guess both . I have no clue if it’s the SFN that’s causing my issues, my herniated discs or something totally I don’t know about

@colleenyoung Correct me if I am wrong! But if you call up Mayo, you should be able to speak with someone who will be able to direct you in the right direction.

Hi!!! The answer is yes!! Yes they can! You don’t state your age or gender, but if you are in your teens, I recommend seeing Dr. Fischer! I went to the Mayo Clinic for brain fog, extreme fatigue, nausea etc. They figured out what was wrong with me! Highly recommend going, it gave me closure and it’s helped me get my life back on track! They diagnosed me with Chronic Fatigue and Orthostatic Intolerance! If you decide to go, you won’t regret it! Everyone there is so friendly and caring!

At 66 M, basically my life came to an abrupt halt after Hep c treatment,, with so many physicians being either bought off or in a dark area yet will simply not give an answer to my horrible depression/ fatigue/ joint pain... I know I got hep in nam 45+ years ago but now I quit,, no more money to squander away on snake oil and if I knew this result was possible I would have never gone to the VA. BEST OF LUCK N LUV 2 ALL OF YOU..

Hi @tjdietz - Welcome to Connect! I saw your question to @karina77 and I'm sorry about your diagnosis of orthostatic intolerance. I don't have any experience with that, but while I thought you might be interested in this thread since there is more discussion of your condition there. Best of luck and hope you get information on what prescriptions might be helpful:

Since most doctors don't really seem to admit there is anything wrong with me, it might be difficult to get a referral. And without a referral, I imagine I would have to self-pay. But I'll keep looking into it. Thanks for your help Karina.

@backyarder1 I have Orthostatic Hypotension. As far as I know there are few medications to address this situation, none that I care to use anyway. I make sure to stay well hydrated and always have a place to sit within a few steps. My house is arranged that way for me. When going out I either make sure I know the layout or take a wheelchair along for "just in case". I have been advised (after many falls) to just sit/lie down rather than falling. Every fall increases the risk of further injury and it is better to be embarrassed by lying down in the grocery aisle than taking an ambulance trip to the ER. For me it is more about managing my situation than anything else. Good luck to you on whatever course you decide to follow. Blessings.

Hi @karina77 I'm curious if Mayo diagnosed you with chronic fatigue or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. They are two different things. And how did they treat it? How are you doing now? Sorry so many questions! I have chronic fatigue syndrome and I am a healthcare professional. So I have a passion for educating others in the healthcare field. I have done a lot of research in the past year in hopes of publishing some articles in professional nursing journals to dismiss some of the misconceptions.... wishing you the best in wellness!
