Mitigating Pain

Posted by pfbacon @pfbacon, Mar 11, 2019

My feet and legs feel better when I smooth any kind of cream on them - it seems to sooth the nerves. Also, I sometimes go into the jacuzzi at the gym at night to do stretches in the warm water and I have noticed that my feet and legs stop burning while I'm in the hot water. I've mentioned before that running helps. These are all temporary, there is relief while I'm doing it; my feet and legs go back to burning when I stop, but sometimes, it helps to break the escalating pain cycle and start at square one again. I take Lyrica and Gabapentin but when I'm in pain an hour before meds are due, I can do running, lotion, or jacuzzi to get through that hour. Have any of you found any otc meds or anything else that works? I'm hesitant to use cannabis products because I had a bad reaction to pot and hash when I was in college (40 years ago and I haven't tried them again - it was that bad). Peggy

I receive some relief from massaging Frankincense oil on my feet and ankles and putting on white cotton socks. This oil is widely available through Amazon. However, when I am having a really painful time I have found nothing helps. I would like to know what triggers periods, generally in the evening, of this intense pain.

Hi Peggy, I'm sorry you are in so much pain. One theory why the rubbing and activity of the jacuzzi help with pain is that both activities have the effect of adding stimulation of the area where you have nerves causing pain. When there is pressure over the area with pain, you are creating a sensation that 'distracts' from the neuropathic pain.

Rather like when you instinctively rub the part of your body that you hurt it. Like a thumb that you hit with a hammer. Or a knee you fall on.

The use of medical marijuana is much more 'controlled' than it was when you tried pot and hash 'back in the day'. We don't have legal medical marijuana here in NC (probably eventually will but not any time soon), so I don't know from first-hand experience.

If MM is available to you, you should find a pain specialist to prescribe and manage your treatment.

Many people post on other forums that MM is very helpful with their pain. It probably distracts the perception of pain in your brain, which is why it works. Just my idea. Here's scientific review. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5549367/

Peggy, The exact things that you do, also help me. But I use the CBD salve and drops when pain in my feet becomes unbearable. The CBD is not from a marijuana dispensary, and only the drops contain just a touch of marijuana. (The legal amount.) I swear by these 2 products. You do not get high from the drops. Nothing like smoking marijuana, as I smoked grass, back in the day. If you would like to know more about the products I chose, let me know. I researched them for hours, and love them. LorI Renee

The pain is in my right hand and both legs . It started in my hand first on 2015 .

At the end , the speciaialst reffeer me to thepain clinic and they prescribe Medical Marijana CBD And THC at night plus lyrica . It helps me too much except if i do any extra walking or standing at my home . I have to take advil or celebrex for joint. It is legal here in Canada . But the CBD i am taking is a capsules not an oil . I used to take the CBD oil but it cause a stomach upset for me .

Thank you ... that is interesting information. I have friends in Canada; they wanted to move to the US, but they looked into health care here and decided to stay in Canada ! Peggy

Curious to know if you had any serious illness or physical trauma in the 5-7 years before your symptoms began?

Hmmm, I can't think of any trauma or serious illness in that time frame. I nearly died of a foreign virus around 2005 - that's the most serious illness I've had. I've always been adventurous but I've never broken a bone, just some sprains. Is there a connection? Peggy
