Annular Tear-Severe Pain

Posted by mishpaula @mishpaula, Mar 6, 2019

In November 2018 I had an MRI which revealed an annular tear. I have tried EVERYTHING! Pain relievers from OTC to narcotics. Nerve medication, CBD/THC. PT, Chiro, Acupuncture, exercise, heat, massage, epidural (going for another one 3/08/19). Nothing to date has helped and pain is debilitating. Sleep is dreaded as the pain from resting on my back, side, stocmach, literally causes a radiation and burning that is out of control. I am fit, thin and pretty tough. But this is getting to me. Please help and advise

So sorry I am also in excruciating pain. I will pray for you that God will
heal you and give you some answers. I am going for injections on Friday I’m
praying that they take away my pain this is so terrible.

Hello @mishpaula, welcome to Connect. I would like to invite @clint1510 who also talked about an annular tear on Connect in the past. @mishpaula, am I correct in understanding that an annular tear is similar to a herniated disc?

No answer. I deal with the same issue and hoped to get some directions here. @vklittle61 did it get any better since 2019??

@alusiq, welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I'd also like to bring @cwalkowicz @jenniferhunter and @amywood20 who can share their experiences with annular fissure or tears.

Alusiq, how long have you had this condition? What treatments or therapy have you tried?

I fell end September 2020 and continued working as a nurse having occasional pain. In December 2020 pain got so much worse I started to limp at work. I am doing physio weekly and on my own at home, I take Arthrotec TID and 50mg of pregabalin BID and it masks pain a bit. The moment I stand for too long it comes back. Tomorrow I have my first modified shifts.
Thank you for your reply.

I got annular tear fell as a nurse when moving patient boxes by tripping on one on floor at work. I have been in excruciating pain that gets progressively worse every hour of standing. I can’t sit at all. Laying down relieves it a bit.. but gets worse. I have tried Naproxen, Motrin, Nortriptyline, heat/ cold, baclofen, etc. nothing works. Life has changed dramatically. I am off work, stuck at home and praying to God to help me get better. I am due for my 1st Epidural spinal shot in L5-S1 today… hopefully it brings relief.?
