Recipes, Food Tips, Healthy Eating & More

Posted by Debbra Williams, Alumna Mentor @debbraw, Feb 22, 2019

Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.

Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.

Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!

I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

Winter coming up in southern hemisphere and time for flue vaccinations. This year being told it is so much more important because don't want people suffering from what you could call normal annual flue to be taking up all the hospital beds etc. that will be needed for possible corona victims. Free jabs for us seniors and other vulnerable groups, and then the rest of the population. I got a text from our local medical centre saying they were setting aside a Saturday for all us over sixty and when I went we were only allowed in one at a time, had to leave our bags in the car, and in and out in less than two minutes, Instead of sitting around in the waiting room the mandatory fifteen minutes we had to go out into our cars and bang on the horn if we had a reaction. What a change from last year when all us seniors had a kind of re union, get together in the reception area. It was fun trying to remember faces and reminisce our days in the maternity ward. What a change a year has made.

Hi heretaunga1947
You are about 19 hours ahead of us in California, so maybe you are just getting up on Sunday morning.
Your health department is smart to only let one person in for the yearly flu shot. To honk the horn if a reaction sets in after the shot. Very creative. Wonder what America will come up with next September-October when it’s time for the annual shot.

Just curious, do you know what strains they are protecting against?
Did the corona19 ever settle down during your Southern Hemisphere (summer).
I talked to a friend who lives on the east coast this A.M., she is in a panic, saying the world is coming to an end, etc.
Most people in New York, especially the city are in some type of concern/panic.
It is understandable.
Are you a native New Zealander?
I find it remarkable how the internet can bring us much closer to each other.
I am going to guess you were born in 1947? I was born the end of 1942.
You take care, and stay well.

Hi Funcountess, Nice to hear from you. Yes Sunday morning and end of daylight saving for us. Just been out for an early morning walk and just a few people out walking. No church services but a lot popping up on line.I have only found these forums in the last month so not quite sure of protocol. What would you think of me sending a private message and I could send you my email. Take Care.

I live in the Tampa area, Hillsborough County, FL and have followed the news on these two ships coming from Argentina. My heart goes out to those on board. About 14 critically ill patients were taken off the ship and sent to the hospital. Although the manpower, 70 sheriff deputies, paramedics, ambulances were a HUGE drain on the city resources I feel it was a humanitarian issue and the ships had to come in to get care for these folks. Have you heard there is another Carnival cruise ship off the Bahamian coast 1000 people aboard with 12 confirmed cases? I guess that will be the next one but don't know how the hospitals are going to handle the influx.

I don’t have any cookies for you but I do make a paleo banana bread with no sugar that is awesome. I miss eating out and telling you about my culinary delights. One thing I’ve realized is that my 3 top hobbies are eating at restaurants, going to non essential businesses and touching my face.

I couldn’t resist that.

Can you do me a favor, and find out if jakedduck1 is a stand up or sit down comedian? I have tried to fine out, but he is afraid to answer?.. I may have a good Hollywood agent for him.
In the studio restraunts they have good food, and plenty of chocolate and there is so much junk food around that the producers and directors bring in, not to mention crew members.
You have a good sense of humor also, but do not know any Hollywood, Florida agents

Leonard @jakeduck1 is definitely a sit down comedian lol...that would be a good opener for his comedy show. The only agents I know are a real estate agent and a car insurance agent. He should write a book like “Nothing Cooking with Jake” or “In the Kitchin and Bitchin” or “My Not So Secret Love Affair with Candy”.

Come on Jake, put down that bowl and pick up a pen.
