CBD Daily Spray and blood thinners

Posted by Betty @hazelnut, Feb 21, 2019

A friend told me that CBD Daily has been a miracle topical pain reliever for her back and knees. I ordered the item and this particular CBD does not contain any THC so I was assuming that it is safe to use being on Xarelto ( blood thinner) and high pressure meds. I have steroid injections but wanted to try this after reading so many positive comments from the users. The spray can be purchased on Ebay and the cheapest place to buy was on Walmart. I called the pharmacist and she said that I could not use the spray because of the blood thinner. Ugh ! I am waiting for a call from the cardiologist and hoping for a different opinion and the okay to try it. Has anyone tried this item that is on blood thinners?

bbeebe1943. Hi Bonnie.
I know how you feel. I first went to my orthopedic doctor a few years ago, my tail bone area hurt very much when I sit down. I tried all kinds of pillows but none helped. He said I have stenosis and I will always have pain, but he did not see surgery for me. Then I got into an auto accident where I was broadsided by a guy in a big SUV who ran a red light. My hip had not been the same since then. But I was still able to walk with limited pain. Then years went by and this covid thing came, and I am always sitting. This is the worst thing. Then I got hip bursitis. The hip doctor gave me one injection. Normally, my right side has all the pain, now both sides are giving me trouble. I'm literally falling apart! I do my morning and evening exercises with a heat pad under my lower back. I'm going to a good PT, they don't accept my Medicare HMO insurance, and they're very expensive, fortunately my daughter is able to help. I'm going once a week. I would love a good massage but everything non essential will be shut down so that's not an option. Take care, I hope we'll feel better. We're in the same boat!

my name is Bonnie - I also have stenosis and sciatica...but my right leg got so much worse (I cry sometimes) since I had the 2nd injection. I'm going back to my primary care doctor this coming week. The pain management guy wanted me to consult a back surgeon, but my PCP wants to see me before I do anything else. The pain doctor gave me Tylenol with an opioid, but I don't want to be taking those for long. I do some PT stretches daily...have to be careful with my right leg & hip. It's not as painful when I first get up but by the end of the day, it can get very bad. Thanks for responding.

Same experience as all of you! Knee shot, two days later lame leg. I thought it was because I had too many steroids in my system, (which can lead to limb weakness and pain); but now I wonder...
I am off steroids now and after a month feeling better. Hope it works its way out of your system soon. I used heat.

Hi Bonnie @bbeebe1943, I wanted to welcome you to Mayo Clinic Connect and thanks for joining the conversation. I am so sorry to hear about your worsening leg and back pain. You might want to check out the spine health group as well for some tips on helping with stenosis and sciatica. https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/spine-health/
Do you find that spreading out errands or spacing your PT with intervals of rest help manage the pain from getting so bad by the end of the night? Is there any position that gives you relief?

Hello, Bonnie and all. I have bulging discs, lumbar vert. are all herniated. Had a cracked T12. I had a procedure for T12 in which the radiologist laproscopically got as much 'stuff' back where it needed to be, then inserted an ortho. 'cement'. That was 12 years ago. I've had almost no pain since the day of the procedure, walked out with a bandaid. The lumbar is a mess and the ortho group I was seeing for years before Mayo were heading to back surgery. I wasn't interested.....but.....so I had cortisone shots in my lumbar that were extremely painful, but I didn't care since they stopped most of the pain for a month or so. Got them every 2-3 months. At Mayo, no shots! Love it. I had decided no more cortisone in my body, as I have Sarcoid and had huge dosages of steroids in my 40's to get it under control. Worked, have to have a few days of steroids when my lungs get unhappy, but no more shots. I find medical cannibis is my salvation. I take a dropper of 1:1 tincture at night, w/additional CBD if needed later. No pain at night. Sleep is wonderful and such a healer. But, with morning and movement, I have pain. I use a touch of THC, just a tiny spray, and a 1/2 dropper of CBD, when I need pain help. It helps. I also use Voltarin cream for years, only as needed, and where needed. It takes the edge off the pain, helps a lot w/arthritis/joint pain. You know what helps me the most...added to these treatments....water therapy. I go to the Y 2X daily, my medicare supplement pays for the membership. I can occasionally enjoy the RECUMBANT only stepper, no bicycle or circular movement. BUT, the warm, therapy pool for an hour of walking, stepping, movement is heaven. It helps the entire body/mind/soul! Let me know if you try it. I recommend it to all my friends....after doc gives his ok. BTW: It doesn't affect my BP as a hot tub does. 94 degree water is lovely. Elizabeth

Thanks, I hope it works its way out, too. That's what I was thinking but didn't know if that was a possibility. Hope so!

I am on blood thinners. My cardiologist was very supportive in using CBD! In fact highly recommended it! Been on it for over a year. No problems. And sure helps with arthritis!

@lynjolo. Can you share what brand you use? Is it an ointment?

I use the ointment and drops I am in Canada so not sure if you can get the same brand as I use. Ointment is called Livrelief. Really helps my arthritis. I take one ml of CBD drops by Aurora before bed. Ratio is CBD 30.0mg to THC 1.5mg. My doctor gave me a prescription and I fill it through a drug store. Sleep well, helps with pain, and no side effects! Hope this helps and you find relief!

Hmmm...I haven't asked my cardiologist yet, will do, but if you Google it, there are quite a few places that say they should not be combined. Hope you are right. Thanks for responding.
