Excessive hunger and exhaustion related to pre-diabetes?

Posted by iella0 @iella0, Feb 18, 2019

Around Valentine’s Day I realized something. Recently I have been so hungry and tired and it’s excessive. When I eat, shortly after, I start sweating and have like a hot wave. I feel cold but then I sweat. I’ve been dizzy a lot recently. I also have been drinking a lot more water and peeing a ton more. A bit of background about me: I am 15 and I am 5’6 and weigh 150. I have an incurable kidney disease and I have to take blood pressure meds for my high blood pressure. Diabetes runs in my family and I have pre diabetes. Could I possibly have diabetes now? I’m just concerned and last time I got my glucose levels checked, my doctor said they were a bit high. (I usually don’t eat many sweets)

Hi @iella0, I agree with the other members that with these recent changes, you should see your doctor. Your doctor might also suggest an appointment with a nutritionist to help you learn what foods are best for you.

I now have a doctors appointment on Tuesday so I will check with my specialist to see what diet they would recommend me! Thank you!

Hello @iella0

I am glad to hear that you have an appointment coming up with your doctor.

I also am prediabetic and I have those same symptoms, especially after eating sweets on an empty stomach. I try not to eat sweets, but if I do, I eat them following a high protein meal and keep the number of sweets very, very small.

Do you check your blood sugar levels with a home monitoring kit? If not, you might ask your parents to get you one at the drug store (no prescription is needed) and check your sugar numbers, especially when you are having those times of sweating, coldness and/or dizziness.

I look forward to hearing from you after your appointment. Will you post again?

@hopeful33250 I went to the doctor and of course she didn’t say anything. She hasn’t really ever cared about my issues. I once went on a diet and asked if it was safe for me to do and she responded “it will harm your kidneys but you will lose weight so it’s fine” she never cares :/

I'm so sorry that you did not feel like your doctor heard you, @iella0
Have you considered a second opinion? Whenever you feel like you are not being helped a change of doctors can make a difference. it might be worth a try.
What do you think?
