depression/anxiety

Posted by brit @brit, Feb 3, 2019

Today if feel so anxious and depressed. I say that because I feel that every day. Nothing changes and you know what because I am not doing anything for myself. Tomorrow I am starting a new yoga class it will be here at home alone. Its a start and I am tired of feeling this way and I must do something to
help myself instead of hoping the Lord will do it. I have to partisipate too. Wish me well and will keep you posted. God Bless Patti

@birchmere What is going on to have you anxious?

I am going to "go for it". Tomorrow morning my husband and I will start walking on the tread mill and have planned on planting our own veggies
That would be something to do to keep your mind off of yourself. Will keep you posted. Thanks for your comments. Patti

to help with depression you need to exercise, get lots of sunshine, deep breath, healthy diet ( fruits, veggies, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, fresh ground flax , ,lentils, beans, less meat), drink 6-8 glasses of water daily , avoid negative thinking and be grateful each day ( list things you are grateful for).. socializing . Walking is good - but get outside with nature and the sun. ( along an ocean, lake, trees etc) . Blessing and keep motivated.

@birchmere Welcome to Mayo Connect. I'm glad that you found us. Being depressed and anxious are horrible feelings. I feel as if I have been there on and off my whole life. How can I help? What do you need to know? First off, when did the begin? Are you on any medications? Therapy?

@bobbiekc- Ideally these are top notch things to strive for and I'm so glad that you recognize them. However when I'm in the throws of depression the last thing that I want to do is be grateful for anything, or socialize. Avoiding negative thoughts is ok, like negative about who you are, what you are like. But in order to deal with depression and anxiety I know that I have had to come to terms with all the crap that needed dealing with.

There are as many ways of dealing with depression/anxiety as there are those with these problems. Trying to do everything at once is a guaranteed path to failure. Be kind to yourself. Have you been in this kind of place before?

@bobbiekc All of those ideas can be overwhelming for one already in the midst thereof. A lot to absorb all at once. Good suggestions though.

Is there anything going on with you right now that has triggered this or has it been ongoing for some time?

Glad you did get outside. There is something about getting outside and breathing in that cool fresh air. Did my yoga this morning and I will keep on with it although right now (in the early stages) just starting I don't feel much different but I will keep on "trucking" God Bless Patti
