Pain spreading

Posted by wawryk01 @wawryk01, Jan 29, 2019

About two months ago I woke up with pain in my neck and thought I must have just slept wrong. A few weeks go by and my thumb pointer finger, and middle fingers on left arm is numb. A few weeks later and I started to get several pains across my left chest neck and arm. The pain is constant but moves around in that area. I went to the ER. Of course they only heard chest pain, EKG XRay and bloodwork was all normal. Now I’m also developing a sharp pain in the back of my left thigh and my heel is tingly. My DR is ordering more bloodwork tomorrow to check for MS or other diseases and I see and a physical therapist on Friday. Not sure what is wrong and why it’s all on my left side.

Hello @wawryk01, these symptoms must be concerning and difficult to deal with. If you don't mind me asking, did anyone mention the possibility of a pinched nerve(s)? Have you had an injury or some sort of trauma on that side of your body or in general that triggered this pain and numbness? I am not a medical professional and cannot diagnose your issue, but putting your symptoms in to the Mayo Clinic symptom checker (https://www.mayoclinic.org/symptom-checker/select-symptom/itt-20009075), it gave a few more things that you could talk with your provider about: thoracic outlet syndrome, spinal stenosis or a potentially herniated disk. Of course these are just suggestions and by no way a diagnosis, but it may give you a few more things to research and to ask your provider about at your next appointment.

@wawryk01, did your provider mention what other potential things they were looking for in your blood work?

They did say it could be a pinched nerve or herniated disc, waiting on an MRI. They wanted to do bloodwork to check for MS, Lyme disease and auto immune first.
