Inner body fusion L-4 -L-5 failure

Posted by user_chf56161a @user_chf56161a, Jan 25, 2019

I had a inner body fusion 21/2 months ago. I went back for more XRays and CT the Dr saw I had a bent pin and the new disk was slipped a little. Surgery was scheduled for Feb 13 to repair. The nurse called yesterday, she said my bones are too soft my T score from Dexascan was -3 I had the Dexascan the day before the surgery. I’m now worse off than before. Now both legs hurt from rear end to the front of thigh, down my shins and top of foot are now nerve pain, I didn’t have before. I’m so discouraged. Treat for osteoporosis next see in 6 months if they can operate. I’ve been having tree for it for 5 years. I’m so done with this.

Good Morning!
I see how frustrated you are. Isn't sad that one medication can help one ailment but cause other issues? I know several people who have taken meds for issues with osteoperosis then have bone issues. I know that these women had to come off the meds for several months before surgery and/or oral surgery.

I know the pain you are feeling as I have the same kind, only my does not go down to my feet, it stops at my knees. I also had surgery on L4/5 about 4 months. It was a great success until I fell 2 weeks ago. For the first time in years, I had no pain. Don't give up or get depressed. Until your doctors can do something for you, use ice or heat when you have the time to sit. I'll give you the same advice I was given....don't bend, don't reach, twist or carry anything heavier than a gallon. This won't be the answer you are seeking, but it might help with the pain, a little.

When your bone density improves, then I am sure your will be able to have the surgery needed.

Good luck!

I should have mentioned that sice I already had broke that re twice since my last surgery.
The first time I didn't go down. I was in a furniture store and somehow I wound up on top of a table.
Two weeks ago I went down HARD! That fall set me back months as far as the pain is concerned.
So, add it to the top of the list!!

I’m not leaving this house. Everything is covered in snow and ice! I’ll keep being careful in the house.

I’m at Mayo now. I saw my Drs yesterday. My hardware didn’t hold my surgery was Nov 14th this year. My bone Dex scan doesn’t be look good. My bones are soft. I have been on Prolia shots for 5 years and taking Vitamin D 50,000 mg a week. That did absolutely nothing for me. Today I will see an encronoligist about my bones. Apparently there is better treatment that they will give me than what I’ve been doing. I’m in pain 24/7 my back, upper legs, and hips. This goes with soft bones called Ostereomalacia. They hardware will remain in my back. The titanium disk slipped back where it was. Sorry this is so long. It’s hard for people to understand what I’m going through. They think a walk will help. I am walking myself all over Mayo just really slow. I’m determined not to be pushed around. Thanks for listening.

@user_chf56161a, that is a tough update and understandably frustrating. You may notice I moved your message to your previous discussion on Inner body fusion L-4 - L-5 failure. I did this so the members who you were discussing with could see your update. Are you comfortable sharing what the better treatment you will be trying according to their recommendation?
