Chest pain > a month

Posted by brrn @brrn, Jan 14, 2019

I have been having intermittent mid chest pain for over a month. It happens daily. The pain radiates up my neck into my jaw and continues up into my temples. At times it radiates across my shoulders in the front. I have had type 1 diabetes for 47 years and it happens whenever my glucose gets high and with any minor exertion. I do not have any GI problems such as reflux.
Has anyone ever had this or does anyone have any suggestions?

Sorry for hi-jacking your thread.
Do you have a cough, are your legs and/or feet swollen? Does your pain increase when your more
active?

Since the beginning of this year, I have been having intermittent chest pain. I've been to the ER three times this year twice in the past two months, I currently see a cardiologist, and I have had almost every test done, chest x-ray, labs, echo, CT, CT angiogram, stress test, Holter monitors, and multiple EKG's and no one has found anything. I've been told by a doctor in the ER that it is not cardio related, my cardiologist thinks different, but can't find anything. I am on beta blockers which controls the low/high blood pressure and mostly controls the abnormally high heart rate but does not take away the feeling of my heart racing in my chest or shortness of breath, even when my heart is not racing. The pain is in the center of my chest and gets worse with pressure and deep breathing, and there is sometimes a very sharp stabbing feeling in my chest for only a few seconds but it becomes unbearable, dizziness is also a major symptom. I am an 18-year-old female with no history of any cardiac anything in my family and no acid reflux or anything like that. This has been going on for months and nothing has come up. I was told in the ER my first CT I had a fatty lipoma pressing against my esophagus but everyone has said its nothing. At this point, I have become increasingly frustrated that nothing has come up and I have been put through multiple tests and countless visits to doctors if anyone has anything they can offer up I would appreciate it.

Just wondering-
Has anyone mentioned costicondritis?
I have HOCM and my daughter had same symptoms you describe, so of course we thought was her heart also. We went through battery of tests you mentioned also. .Ended up not being the heart at all. She had pain in center of chest like you describe which in turn lead to anxiety attacks ( she was 17 at time). Anxiety attacks came on because of severe pain, which feels like you are having a heart attack. Adults experience the same sensations.
I am not trying to downplay your condition at all, and as a mother I am happy nothing was wrong with your heart. There is nothing more frustrating and frightening, when you are young and feel like your heart is racing and you experience pain.
I would ask Dr about costicondritis and also ask him to do Lyme tests- not regular ones only- ask him/her to test for babesiosis. Undiagnosed, this can lead to same symptoms.
Just some suggestions from a Mom!
Hope you figure out and that there is nothing serious going on!

Do you have tachycardia? Have you considered the possibility of cardiac sarcoidosis. Have you have had a MRI? Sarcoidosis can cause chest pain and fast rythmns and disrupts the conduction of the heart.

Hello,
Let me start by introducing myself. I'm Natalie. A 34 year old female. My health has always been 'fine', besides I'm fat and smoked cigarettes for a bit, but I quit smoking 3 months ago (cold turkey, no replacement nicotine) and started going to the gym about 45 days ago, so I'm working on my health. Blood work is always good, no health issues known.
A few weeks ago, I started experiencing chest squeezing pain on the left side. Alarming enough I went to a walk in clinic and they did an EKG and said no issues. I did stop at my parents to take a quick BP (mine is always 115ish/70ish) as I was feeling super 'off'. BP was about 165ish/95ish. I took a xanax thinking it was anxiety, but it didnt come down. The next day it was back to normal.
Since then, my BP has been normal but chest pain still comes and goes throughout the day. From a squeezing sensation to a super 'heavy' feeling inside my chest.
Can this all be from quitting smoking? Anxiety?

Hi @xmush1620x,

Welcome to Connect. You may notice that I moved your discussion and combined it with this existing discussion on chest pain. I did this as I thought it would be beneficial for you to be introduced to other members who are discussing much of what you are experiencing.
If you click on VIEW & REPLY in your email notification, you will see the whole discussion and can join in, meet, and participate with other members talking about their or their loved ones' experiences.

First, I’d like to mention that I really admire you for making changes and taking the right steps towards a healthy life style. Sometimes though, the human body or the immune system is such that a healthy lifestyle can’t eliminate every risk of falling ill! Have you consulted with a cardiologist, @xmush1620x?

Have you had your cholesterol checked? Have you see your doctor about this? Does your chest pain increase with exercise? I recommend keeping a symptom journal and share it with your provider. I can't advise about quitting smoking but anxiety can cause chest pain. I would back off a little on strenuous exercise until you know more especially if your chest pain increases with exercise.
