Chest pain > a month

Posted by brrn @brrn, Jan 14, 2019

I have been having intermittent mid chest pain for over a month. It happens daily. The pain radiates up my neck into my jaw and continues up into my temples. At times it radiates across my shoulders in the front. I have had type 1 diabetes for 47 years and it happens whenever my glucose gets high and with any minor exertion. I do not have any GI problems such as reflux.
Has anyone ever had this or does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi @brrn, welcome to Mayo Connect. Glad you had the chance to access our information exchange, especially because you may need to take some steps today to get a handle on what's causing your chest pain. Take a look at the Mayo Clinic symptom checker located on the Internet at https://www.mayoclinic.org/symptom-checker/chest-pain-adult/related-factors/itt-20009075. At a minimum, I'd contact my personal physician promptly to see about the possibility of a heart problem. In addition, take a few minutes to find out when and with what symptoms you should call 9-1-1 for an assisted ride to an emergency room. Notice on the web page (along the left margin) the following advice:

Get emergency medical care if:
* You have uncomfortable pressure, fullness or squeezing pain in your chest for longer than a few minutes OR
* Your chest pain is accompanied by shortness of breath, sweating, nausea, dizziness or fainting OR
* The pain radiates beyond your chest to one or both of your arms or your neck.

I hope this information helps you decide what steps to take to deal with the pains in your chest, neck, jaw, and temples. Best wishes for getting some quick professional answers. We'll be interested in hearing how your medical treatment turns out. Martin

I have pain in the center of my chest for about 2 months now! Sometimes with a little shortness of breath ! I had two trips to the ER and had blood work and EKG ,fine both times. Alone with a chest X-ray! Several trips to family Dr. Dr thought it might be reflux and gave me pills. The pills did not help! Had a Ct scan of chest 2 weeks ago. Everything came back good! I have the pain all the time. I Have a stress test booked for February ! The Dr mentioned it might be Angina! But would you an Angina all the time, with no break. I’m 45 non smoker with good Bp! Any ideas!! Causing lots of stress! Thanks

I know chest pain can be really scary especially when you dont have any answers. A stress test will be a good start. Did you see a cardiologist yet. You might want to get a cardiac workup. Angina can cause chest pain but a cardiologist can determine this. I know its hard, but try to reduce stress. Anxiety and stress can cause chest pain symptoms. I have a complicated cardiac history and have chest pain. It can be frightning and frustrating. i cant tell how many times ive been to ER just for them to say we cant find anything wrong. Good luck hope you find answers and feel better
