Specialist in North Carolina

I live in Burlington, NC, and am looking for a second opinion on my MAC diagnosis. I’m within 1 hour of Raleigh/Durham.

I would be very interested in this as well. We have family in Holly Springs, NC and we have talked about moving south. I haven't heard of a doctor specializing in MAC in this area. Thanks, Jane Brown

I live in Winston-Salem and am also interested in getting a second opinion. I would love to hear if anyone has been to the UNC Center for Bronchiectasis and NTM in Chapel Hill. I know my local ID doctor consults with someone at Duke regarding my case, so that might be an option too.

@kwb1970 @macjane @allegres I don't know how to share this link directly but if you Google search ntminfo.org it will pull up info that shows which states (US) and where the best docs are that treat. That's how I found my doctor in Atlanta Georgia for a second opinion. I looked and N. Carolina had 4 specialists. Best of luck and good health!

@kwb1970, @macjane, @margiebanks I was going to say Duke also. They are cutting edge there and have excellent depts for lung health.

Thanks so much for info. Duke would mean seeing our daughter and family.

@macjane Please let me know if you go to Duke. I still hope to hear from someone who has been treated for MAC at either Duke or Chapel Hill. Good luck!

I definitely will as I think this might serve two purposes - seeing family and talking with specialists . I will have to see what is available. Travel there has so much more potential but I want to make sure this is right place. Where do you go now? I am dealing with so many issues such as depression, stomach and colon problems. I also have to begin to HELP me.

@macjane I am being treated at Wake Forest Medical Center. The doctors there consult with NJH and with an ID doctor at Duke and I feel like I am getting good care. I had to go off of the big three after 6 months because of a bad reaction and although stable for now, I know that I may eventually need to go back on some kind of treatment. Before I do, I would like to get a second opinion from someone who specializes in NTM. I'm trying to decide whether to start out with someone here in NC or to travel to NJH or Mayo. I won't make a decision right away, but I'll keep you posted. Good luck and let me know how you do. Betty

No help at all at Duke. So much effort and no doctor.
