Does anybody know if there is a MAC specialist at Emory (Atlanta)?

Posted by gela349 @gela349, Dec 19, 2018

I recently had a bronchoscopy, but I'm still waiting for the lab results. I've had two CT scan - the most recent one showed the nodules in my left lobes have gotten bigger, plus there are additional new nodules in the right lobe. Currently, I'm seeing a local pulmonologist, but I'm wondering if I should get a referral for a second opinion before starting a treatment plan. Thanks!

Thanks Margie, I wonder where University of Michigan doctors fit in? My Pulmonary doctor mentioned some doctors (no names) at Cleveland Clinic but I am due to go to Mayo in March. It was originally January but some other medical problems came up. I wonder why no doctor from U of Michigan did not appear. Did you see a doctor at Mayo?

@macjane No, i havent been seen at Mayo, sure would like to as Jacksonville Mayo is only 2 hours from my home. But I live in Georgia and my insurance dictates that I stay in-state. St Joseph Emory in Atlanta is a 4 hour drive but I'm just grateful there's a specialist there that others in this group have seen and are pleased with. It's great you're able to go to Mayo in March, will be looking forward to hearing about your experience. Take care

I thought Mayo in Minnesota is Clinic that accepts people from out of state. Fl and AZ seem not to accept others. The drive in the winter could be a little disastrous. Down the east coast, we have family and friends. Did you ever go to Mayo in Rochester?

@macjane I don't know if you're asking me, but no, I've only received care so far in South Georgia 😊

@macjane Hi Jane, Happy New Year! All of the Mayo Clinics take out-of-state patients as well as outof-country patients. I live in S.C. and go regularly to the Mayo in Jacksonville. Getting your insurance to pay for you to go out-of-state for a medical visit could be a problem for some.

@macjane Glad you're back. Wishing you the very best as you seek a new primary care doctor! This can seem repetitive and tiresome but hopefully you will see it as a wonderful opportunity to get a second opinion and new set of eyes to look at your case! My second opinion appointment w an NTM and Bronchiectisis specialist is tomorrow afternnon in Atlanta! I'm so excited! I'm ready to know in more detail what kind of bacteria is in my sputum. And be treated accordingly. I will post answers as I get them. Say a prayer for me plz!

I tried to use chart for state doctor's but neither MI nor North Carolina were entered properly. In talking with people at Duke, I had no luck whatsoever. Very discouraged.

@macjane Jane I don't quite understand what you mean about the chart for state doctors and MI (you ARE talking Michigan?) nor North Carolina being entered properly. When I go to http://www.ntminfo.com, there are several specialists listed for both Michigan and N Carolina. Scroll down to about the 3rd "conversation" tab and it says "Physician Referrals". Then you look up by state. If you have done all this already and still no luck, I apologize for hammering this info back at you again. And Duke? What happened there? Prayers for patience for all of us!! It's wearisome at times.
