Gratitude Discussion Group

Posted by Debbra Williams, Alumna Mentor @debbraw, Nov 24, 2018

Hi everyone! Just before Thanksgiving @michellegraffradford posted a blog called Gratitude Changes Everything. She suggested three techniques to help incorporate gratitude into our daily lives:

  • Start the Day with Gratitude (before getting up think of three people you are grateful for)

  • Maintain a Gratitude Journal to record times when you are grateful

  • Count Blessings – not sheep! (Review the day and remember moments of gratitude)

Her blogpost was so inspiring that a lot of us decided we wanted to form a Gratitude Group to keep the attitude of gratitude going. The blogpost area is not an ideal space for a big discussion group so I am moving the discussion over here to the “Just Want to Talk” Group. Let’s use this space to share and discuss our Gratitude Journey. I’m going to suggest that we each try to take a minute from the day and post here what has made us feel thankful today. It can be as small as a stranger’s smile on the bus or as large as fulfilling a major life dream – or anywhere in between. We can also discuss how we are doing with the three techniques. Sometimes it is easier to form new habits with support from others.

Michelle's full blogpost is at the link below. You may want to review it or print it out to help get started!

I look forward to hearing from others in the Gratitude Group and to having others join us here! Thanks to those who already shared great stories. If you haven't yet, what gratitude will you share today?!

Today I am grateful for sunshine and an auto body repair shop I can trust. Had a minor collision in December, took my car in Monday & got it back this morning - not only perfectly repaired, but cleaned inside & out - even the floormats! When we were chatting about being some of their early customers, the manager told me that was in 1981!

I’m sharing that I believe I’m finally moving forward and I have such gratitude for that! Before Clippers (BC) I loved to quilt and was quite good at it (if I do say so myself). But, I’ve been so stuck the past couple of years and can’t seem to do anything. Then I made the decision to give away all of my BC quilts!
I advertised in a neighborhood newspaper and had lots of interest. As I was giving them away, it occurred to me that I was really putting my old life behind me and getting a new start! I feel positive and ready to start on my AC life!

Unbelievable as it is I'm actually grateful that I gave away my pumpkin pie. Although I'm not too sure how grateful I will be after my chocolate mayonnaise cake topped with See’s candy is gone and it's going fast.

Wow - I was just planning a mayonnaise cake for dessert tonight - it was my Mom's old Sundy standby when we didn't bake on Saturday!

@sueinmn
Address please, oops how rude of me.
Guess it's not polite to invite myself.
I'll send a self-addressed paid box and make arrangements for pick up instead.
Enjoy, of course how could you not enjoy something from the most important five food groups.

Wow, Jake! You’ll have to do some home care nursing for her. I hear that you are a great cook and housekeeper.
How long have you known her? Very special! Becky

Wow! That's remarkable, Jake! I definitely want to be your friend.....God bless her. I'm amazed the doctor did the surgery. Wonderful. My prayers are with her and her medical caregivers, and you and her friends/family.
God bless you all, elizabeth
