Gratitude Discussion Group

Posted by Debbra Williams, Alumna Mentor @debbraw, Nov 24, 2018

Hi everyone! Just before Thanksgiving @michellegraffradford posted a blog called Gratitude Changes Everything. She suggested three techniques to help incorporate gratitude into our daily lives:

  • Start the Day with Gratitude (before getting up think of three people you are grateful for)

  • Maintain a Gratitude Journal to record times when you are grateful

  • Count Blessings – not sheep! (Review the day and remember moments of gratitude)

Her blogpost was so inspiring that a lot of us decided we wanted to form a Gratitude Group to keep the attitude of gratitude going. The blogpost area is not an ideal space for a big discussion group so I am moving the discussion over here to the “Just Want to Talk” Group. Let’s use this space to share and discuss our Gratitude Journey. I’m going to suggest that we each try to take a minute from the day and post here what has made us feel thankful today. It can be as small as a stranger’s smile on the bus or as large as fulfilling a major life dream – or anywhere in between. We can also discuss how we are doing with the three techniques. Sometimes it is easier to form new habits with support from others.

Michelle's full blogpost is at the link below. You may want to review it or print it out to help get started!

I look forward to hearing from others in the Gratitude Group and to having others join us here! Thanks to those who already shared great stories. If you haven't yet, what gratitude will you share today?!

@jenniferhunter I love this! And so we’ll deserved. Remember, I said that you had inspired me to return to my quilting? Well, I’m still trying. I have lots of ideas, but I can’t seem to make them come to life. 😑 I promise I’ll send a picture of my ‘journey’ quilt. Thanks for all you do. Becky

@becsbuddy Thanks, Becky. Sometimes you have to get outside in nature to get ideas and creativity to flow. I'm glad you are still working at it. That is hard sometimes when life gets in the way, and it does for me too sometimes. You can always get lost in some inspirational music to get into the zone. There is no rush along your journey and you can post about it when you are ready. The journey itself is the magic part.

I am grateful for two friends who have stepped up big time for me. On Oct 28 I have a medical procedure scheduled that includes having a driver afterward. Since I live 2 hours away from the medical center, I will go up the night before. Appointment will take 5-6 hrs. One of these two friends will drive an hour each way to come get me and take me back to hotel, where I will stay one more night, then drive home. Without these two, I would really be up a creek with no paddle. It's hard to have to reach out for a helping hand after all these years!

What a wonderful day this is. My friend went to the store and ran errands and has been cooking most of the day and won’t allow me in the kitchen. It’s not possible for life to be any better!!!

@gingerw I believe in angles when they are there and when you don't see them all you have to do is ask , I think its our ego that holds us back at times. Id like to share a story with you . Since my first back fracture I was always afraid of falling but it happenen slipped on a wet floor before I hit the floor with my back I felt these invisible pressure on my back so I would,nt fall hard on it Surprise yes very much but that was 8 yrs ago and Ive never forgotten and wont .

@gingerw As @mamacita said, you would do it for a friend too. That should make it easier, but I know for me too, it would not. I hate imposing on anyone.

I hope all goes well with the medical procedure.

@jakedduck1 So, were the meals just out of this world, stupendously good? And, did you wash all the dishes and clean up?

They have been absolutely scrumptious and since I didn't have to cook, it made them all the better. I haven't so much as washed a fork. It's going to be extremely arduous not to mention terrifying when I have to return to the dungeon of horrors!
