Xanax / Depression

Posted by dianrib @dianrib, Nov 18, 2018

I take Xanax & Effexor My MD never told me these were habit forming !! I would have said NO .Earlier I took Prozac Had NO problem stopping that. Going off Xanax for 3 days sent me to the hospital with 300 BP - sky high blood sugar .. fast heart beat I .felt like I was dying ! Had a brain scan to check for stroke. So angry / disgusted at my MD. I am a 75 yr old Widow, daughter had a stroke. Grand child has serious issues. Feel like giving up Politics is going insane Scary I am NOT suicidal

dianrib, I empathize. I am 73 and have suffered with anxiety for years. Many years ago I took Xanax to get myself trough the prolonged illness and death of my mother. That drug made me more anxious. Valium worked much better for me. While that too is addicting, I only took it for a very short time. I recently began taking lowest dose of Lexapro for intermittent spells of anxiety and nausea. It seems to help. This is a drug that requires weening to come off. So there’s no easy way it seems. I am going to try adding CBD oil to my regimen as well. When I return to the Mayo Clinic in February for my annual physical, I am requesting hypnotism for anxiety. My thought is that if you’re prone to anxiety, aging doesn’t help! Whatever efficient brain-gut connection I once had seems to have been severed! Hang in there, take advantage of the help available, and hope for a good outcome. And now ... I’m going to take my own advice! Stay in touch ... this is a great forum.

And dianrib, I certainly meant to add that with all the challenges you face, you wouldn’t be human if you breezed through it all. I’m sorry you are facing so much and will pray that everything will somehow turn out for you and your family.

For @dianrib: I am very upset to learn that your doctor did not tell you about Xanax and Effexor. He should have done that. But since when are you taking these drugs, and at what dosage? For how many months or years? When did you start taking Prozac and at what dosage? Did you take a benzo with Prozac? Was it prescribed by the same doctor? Is he a psychiatrist or a GP? Sorry for asking so many questions, but maybe I can share my experience with you, which might be of help to you. I have taken Xanax and Effexor during my long illness which goes back 25 years. I am presently on a cocktail of drugs, but my condition is stable and the quality of my life is very good. All good wishes to you and God bless you.
