ED versus Libido

Posted by glenner075 @glenner075, Oct 18, 2018

For some time I have been asking the question, is Erectile Disfunction different from Libido. The reason for a difference might be that the hormones associated with Libido may cause a lack of interest in sexual activity whereas ED is driven by simple stimulation. My Doctors suggest that they are the same. I have low libido but my ED is reasonably okay. Any thoughts?

Hi @glenner075, you bring up a very interesting question.
Here are some resources discussing erectile dysfunction and/or low libido.

https://www.webmd.com/men/how-low-testosterone-can-affect-your-sex-drive#1
https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/erectile-dysfunction/symptoms-causes/syc-20355776
https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/sexual-health/expert-answers/loss-of-sex-drive/faq-20058237

What I am understanding is that they both can be present at the same time but are not the exact same, but that’s not definitive.

@jakeduck1 and @mlemieux have spoken about low libido before and may have an opinion on this.

You mentioned that you have spoken about this with your doctor. Are they treating your low libido and erectile dysfunction with the same drug or supplement or are they approached differently?”

My Doctors indicate that E.D. is the same as Libido and treatment of E.D. (Which is their principal focus) will restore the Libido. All that I have read on Mayo contradicts such. Thanks for your help!

Ethan, In your attachments, it is relatively clear that E.D. and Libido are two different diseases, though remotely related. Two issues that I deal with that you also alluded to were age (75) related considerations and antidepressant medications both of which are part of my situation. I may not be able to overcome the impact of either of these. Thanks for your help! Glenn

Hi @b_ssky and welcome to Connect. You must be frustrated that the options you have found have not been helpful.

I wanted to tag @mlemieux and @glenner075 as they may be able to offer you support as you search for a solution.

@b_ssiky have you spoken to a doctor about this? If so, have they offered any other ideas to fix PE?
