Foundations to help pay for Hyper Sal 7%

Posted by Margie E @margiebanks, Oct 8, 2018

My insurance only pays $70 towards a months supply of Hyper Sal 7%. I'm on a fixed income (disability)of less than $850 and receive Medicare and Georgia Medicaid. I have put in a financial request to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation but have a feeling I wont pass because I don't have CF. While waiting they suggested to check out healthwellfoundation.org. The website listed diseases they fund and bronchiectisis, pseudomas, and MAC weren't listed. Tried Canadian and Mexican pharmacys and its not carried. I'm grateful to have insurance but I cannot swing $70 a month for the rest of my life. I'm beyond tears and screaming in my home with this latest roadblock. After 6 months I stopped the big 3 last Monday a week ago so I was really counting on Nubulizing. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Margie

@margiebanks...This might work...not sure how much you are paying now...Sounds like $70. month?? This ships from Isreal...7% hypertonic saline 5ml for $21. count of 24 Shipping is 9. It says you can make an offer too...maybe get 2 at a time and ask for combined shipping. ?? It is Made in France. https://www.ebay.com/itm/RSV-Hypertonic-Saline-7-diluents-in-inhalators-BRONCHIOLITIS-Cystic-fibrosis-/222088063457?_trksid=p2349526.m4383.l4275.c10#viTabs_0 (Also, Since it is 5 ML, maybe you could split it and do 2.5 each time you nebulize?? My pharmacist told me as long as I keep the pippett upright and in a sanitary condition and use it that day, there is not an issue in splitting a pippet...you might check that with your Dr. ) Kate

Kate you're a lifesaver! Thanks so much! I hadn't thought of eBay because Amazon was pricey and I figured it would be too. I can rest easy now while waiting for a reply from the CF foundation. Really made my night! I'm up packing to leave my area in southwest Georgia cause I'm in the red zone for this next hurricane. What am I taking? My therapy vest, Nubulizing machine, and medical records! Again, thanks so much! Margie

@margiebanks ...Darn hurricanes. Stay safe and try not to get rattled. I am on a barrier island in FL on the east coast so I know the stress. I did also find that same saline in the usa on amazon for about $2 more. I think, though, that you could maybe discount the price on ebay with a lower offer or ask for free shipping? (since they take offers) Would think they would do that if you bought 2 of them. I made a mistake on the ml's. I looked at my solution and it is in a 4 ml pippett. So cutting a 5 ml in half won't quite give you enough. I also did a search for a 10ml pippett but did not come up with any good ones. I just reordered from my pharmacy and asked for a 3 month refill as opposed to a 1 month...I think sometimes the 3 is close in price to the 1 month...I will let you know. Also...prices vary widely from pharmacy to pharmacy...see what Walmart sells theirs for. Many ways to skin a cat...Ouch. Hate that expression...I love cats.
Good luck with the hurricane.

@alleycatkate Hey Kate, just now settling down from the devastion Hurricane Michael brought to my area. Wanted to tell you I did receive the 7% sodium chloride from AllianceRx. 60 vials, 4 ml for $21. No shipping charge. I'm pretty happy with this. It's the first time I've been able to have a somewhat productive cough since my diagnosis in February (8 mo ago). The airway clearance vest doesn't help me cough but I still do it because all that shaking has got to loosen something! I do have more concerns after seeing my Pulmonary doc today but I'll move that to another thread another day. Thanks again Kate and I hope you were spared any of Hurricane Michael!

@margiebanks ....So very sorry that you had to endure Hurricane Michael. I am hoping that you did not suffer a lot of damage to your home. The photos of the aftermath are pretty mind-boggling.
Very glad to hear that you got such a good price on the sodium chloride. (as it should be) I mean, really!! We are talking Salt Water for goodness sake!! Don't start me on our health system!
I also hope that updated report from your pulmonologist is OK. Sounding like there may be some issues??I will private message you as I need your address for sending Christmas time cheer and more.
My best to you.

Hi Margie -- I just saw your post and I know this is from a while back and you've found a less expensive source. I thought it helpful to point out that in my case Medicare pays 80% of the cost of the saline (copay of $1.20 for a month's supply). I have a Medigap policy that takes care of the 20% so effectively cost me nothing. They also paid for the nebulizer. It took a while to get them to do it, the pharmacist needed doctor's notes etc. I figured it was worth the effort and the doctor was willing to provide all that. Hope this helps.
