My insurance won't pay for Mayo. Has anybody had experience with the University of Iowa?

@tinaesims Is the problem that your insurance won't pay, or that Mayo won't work with your insurance to handle the money. I have plan F, AARP, so Mayo sent them the bill, they sent us the check, and we paid the bill with the check. I saw no problem except that we did have to handle the check. It was OK. The mayo system is sort of creeky and rusty, but it can work. Just be sure to document everything, and keep your receipts. Put the money in your own bank account when you get it from insurance, then pay it with your own check to avoid any issues, or have the bank pay it directly. old karl

Hi all does anyone have have clear sputum with small dots of yellow occasionally in their sputum? If so do you know what it means?

REPLY

heathert I'm not an expert on meaning but have been told that coloration is not the real answer. I've had everything from almost clear to horribly green and everything in between. Clear with yellow or clean with green...… personally, I don't think it means anything. I usually take a sample in whenever it is thicker yellow or green solidly. Perhaps others will have different stories.

@heathert My sputum goes from clear to cloudy white to light yellow to darker tan. I usually get darker colored sputum right after I get out of bed in the morning. As the day goes along, it becomes lighter. Darker colored sputum could mean that there is some kind of infection in your lungs. But it is not necessarily tied to MAC. For example, if you have bronchitis or pneumonia, your sputum could be of a darker color, like yellow or green.

@ling thanks for that, it is very interesting, mine was clear but had a few small yellow specks in the clear, I am wondering if I am inhaling bits of orange that I eat for breakfast.

I'm on an HMO and Mayo is not in network. University of Iowa is.

@heathert It is very possible. One time I saw dark red specks in my sputum and was really scared. I thought MAC came back. Then I remembered that I had eaten some cherries earlier. Your colored specks could also from the post nasal drip from your nose.
