Bleeding during menopause

Posted by darcys @darcys, Sep 11, 2018

I am 55 yrs old and have not had my period for over 2 years. No spotting. One night, I was urinating and when I wiped, there was lots of blood. In fact, there was more blood than I'd ever had with my period. I went to a nurse practitioner to have my vagina and labia checked because I have a sweating problem which does itch immensely & thought maybe I tore something while scratching in my sleep. She didn't find anything that would cause that much blood. She suggested the blood probably came from my cervix. The bleeding stopped after that one time, except for a little spotting the next day. I don't have insurance so I didn't pursue it yet. Wondering if this is common during menopause? Should I pursue it further?

Did the nurse practitioner suggest any next steps?

The nurse practitioner suggested I have my cervix checked. I haven't done this yet. Wanted to see what others did who have had same experience. Thanks for article @lisalucier

@lisalucier @darcys I really don't have anything to contribute, my menopause was late but easy. The only real problem was the hot flashes. I was working in an office with young people and suddenly I would turn scarlet and start sweating profusely. Embarrassing to say the least. I can't believe it, but now I have hot flashes/night sweats again due to the immunosuppressants. UGH.

Hi, @darcys - just wanted to check back with you and see how things are going? Have you experienced any more bleeding? Did you end up having your cervix checked by your doctor?

@lisalucier Hi Lisa, thank you for checking in. No, I haven't seen a doctor yet. No more bleeding. I'm a procrastinator. 🙂
