Has something changed with the iud? You should ask your doctor if the formula changed. I'm interested in following up with you- I hope you will reach out to your physician and come back to let us know what he says.

Hi, @roberta4306 - I wanted to add my welcome to @jamienolson's. I'm sorry you keep having these infections - I know from my own experiences that those are not fun.

Here is some Mayo Clinic information on Mirena (hormonal IUD). https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/mirena/about/pac-20391354. I'm not seeing yeast infections or UTI mentioned specifically. However, I did note it talks about contacting your healthcare provider immediately if you experience unusual or foul-smelling vaginal discharge. So, I'd second what Jamie said about reaching out to your doctor.

@kdubois has talked about the Mirena IUD, and I'm hoping she may have some thoughts for you. I'm also inviting @travelgirl to see if she may have any insights on your IUD and the infections that you've experienced.

My gynecologist works in 3 different counties and a hospital. I spoke her previously and she said she would get my information from my regular doctor. Unfortunately, every time i make an appointment, they either cancel on me or it takes approximately two months to get in and at that point I don't have a yeast infection. In my area, the office who places the mirena, is the person I have to discuss it with for some safety reason incase it needs to be removed. They say her office is the one whom has to remove it unless her office goes out of business or if it gets dislodge. Then another doctor can. Its putting a stain on my relationship and the yeast infections are very uncomfortable. I have purchased monostat and treated him and myself thinking maybe he's passing it back to me but I still have them. I recently had a pap smear at my health department and it came back negative except it stated i have a yeast infection but i didn't show actually signs for almost two weeks. Its all confusing for me and I'm trying to find out how to prevent the infections.

Hi, @roberta4306 - wondering how things are going and whether you are still experiencing urinary tract and yeast infections?

This is a popular topic for me, as I'm on my 3rd Mirena. yes, do the math, that's 15 years, and it's been an amazing 15 years I must say, without the nuisance of having a period.

I know they are pricey , but if you estimate all of the feminine products you may forgo with a successful Mirena insertion, the cost of pads and tampons over 5 years is comparable to the Mirena. Add in a cost to account for the mentruation nuisance, and its an easy decision really.

my periods were sooo heavy after I turned 40, such an embarassing situation. I had a 9.5lb baby and I have a low thyroid, my doctor then said that extra uterous real estate could be to blame. I could just soak right through the bed even. It was horrible to try to manage it, so the Mirena was the answer for me.

I was to the gynecologist recently, to remove my Mirena (I'm 53). She said to keep it another year, she's had women at age 58 have a period. So, I'm on my last year with my Mirena... I'll be sad to see it go I guess.

I never had a problem with it, never had a UTI or yeast infection caused by the Mirena.

Thanks for the input on your experiences with levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (Mirena IUD), @Erinmfs. I actually had the soaking through things experience when I tried the intrauterine copper contraceptive (Paraguard IUD) a number of years back, so I can imagine something that would alleviate that would be welcome. I had trouble going out of the house even for a couple of days per month.

Thank you @lisalucier , I know how embarassing it is, not something we talk about too much. one of my office girlfriends was talking about her Mirena experience at lunch one day, and she had many good things to say too, so I went out, investigated, and got one. She was younger than me, still having children.

I was surprised to have my medical professional recently say that she's had patients, with periods up until 58 years old! I came to connect to see what others had to say. One of my doctors was laughing that I still had one (mirena) at my age of 53, but so much for that!

There is a question on the form when you walk into the doctor's office that asks for the date of your last period, I respond "do dang idea" each time and I'm grateful, and I always have to explain. - lol
