Migraine for 28 days and counting HELP

Posted by tleever @tleever, Aug 6, 2018

I have had migraines as long as I can remember. I get cluster migraines as well as status migraines. Sometimes they last a short time and others up to 3 days. I was taking Fioricet or sumatriptan which seemed to work for the most part.

This time it’s been different...I got a migraine 7/10/2018 and have had it consistently for 28 days now with Aura everyday. I have seen a Neurologist and was prescribed a variety of medications at different appointments. They are:
Prednisone 60mg (6) days then taper off for (5) days
Midrin
Naratriptan
Sumatriptan Nasal Spray

I was also given samples of Zomig.

All of the medications minus Midrin brought down the intensity of the pain for a short period but, nothing has broken the cycle yet. Midrin put me out for a day and a half but, I woke up with headache.

Neurologist has been wanting to admit me to the hospital for IV treatment but, I really don’t want to be in hospital unless I know it will for sure help. I have a lot of responsibilities at work that won’t allow a hospital stay. To top it off because I’ve had this migraine for so long my boss called me in for a meeting about my performance. I essentially got into trouble because my head hurts so bad I can’t think or function properly. I fear that my job is in jeopardy and if I am out for a few days in hospital maybe that would be the excuse to let me go.

I had an MRI which showed a hyperintense signal. Neurologist doesn’t think this is anything to be concerned about.

I went to ER on July 26th and they gave me a migraine cocktail that made me sleepy but, didn’t help the migraine. The attending physician wanted to admit me but, gave me the option to go home and rest. Migraine was slightly better in the morning but, rapidly increased intensity throughout the day.

Has anyone experienced something like this? What should I do to get rid of the migraine? Any recommendations are appreciated. Thank you in advance .

I just had 23 in a row. I am desperate too.. I have 4 autoimmune diseases as well. I started doing Botox for the migraines and it cut them in half. However, I just read info on Botox activating your immune system. Don’t know what to do. Hope you find relief soon.

I have tried almost every pain med out there and none of them helps my chronic migraine pain, is there anyone who has had relief with any treatment and what was it?

@jbarb, you mention that you have tried pain meds with no help. If you don't mind sharing, are you working with a medical professional to try out different treatment options?

May I recommend to all migraine sufferers. Make an appointment with a qualified Nutritionist who has his/her four year degree, (has to be a nutritionist) they will organize test that ur Doctor in most cases does not even know about, as they work completely separate to the drug side of medicine. They are wonderful people with an amaunt of knowledge

I just injected myself with Avomig yesterday. It is a preventive method. Once a month shot. This has just come out this year. Very expensive. Insurance doesn't cover it. My doctor filled out the paperwork to send to the manufacural. Upon refusal by my iinurance they contacted me and I got it in a couple of days. It is refrigerated. Again, this is a preventative not a pain relief med. It is supposed to lessen the frequency of migraines.

I take Zomig if I can catch the migraine first starts. Sometimes it aborts the migrane
Trying Avomig which is a monthly injection I gave myself first one yesterday. Just came out this year. My insurance denied it which I think most of them will. The doctor had to first fill out paperwork and send it to the manufacter. They contacted me and I received a free monthly innjection yesterday. It is a preventive med and not to get rid of the pain. Supposed to lessen the frequency of migraines.
I use Fiornal for the pain. It works pretty well for me. I've been having about 3 per week.
Years ago I did suffer with them almost every day. I was taking Midrin. The specialist said I got addicted to the med and it did the opposte of getting rid of pain. I was in the hospital. They gave me meds to sleep and something to get rid of the pain. That['s when I started taking Fiorinal. .
