Skipped beats

Posted by kgc6671 @kgc6671, Jul 7, 2018

I have been experiencing some skipped or delayed beats. I have a Kardia ekg device I use and it always shows normal. Any idea what maybe going on? I don’t see my cardiologist until the 27th.

Hello @kgc6671

I see this is your first post - welcome to Connect. Here at Connect we share our health concerns and learn from each other. Here is a discussion that I thought you might find helpful, https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/hea-rhythm-conditions-welcome-to-the-group/ Here you will read about a variety of different experiences of problems with irregular heart beats.

If you care to share more, how often do these skipped or delayed beats occur? Is it daily or less frequently than that? Do you have other symptoms like lightheadedness, pain or shortness of breath? Have you been prescribed any heart meds?

These would all be good things to share with your doctor at your appointment. I look forward to hearing from you again.

Thank you for responding This has been occurring daily, I have no other symptoms with it. It is just annoying when I am laying down. I either can’t feel it or it doesn’t happen when I’m active. I take carvedilol because I was experiencing rapid heart rates at night that would wake me up. I recently came off of high blood pressure meds because my pressure was going too low (have lost about 20-25 lb)
I see a cardiologist and have seen an EP doctor once. Not sure if I should see the EP again or just the regular cardiologist?

@kgc6671

You are to be applauded for your weight loss and the fact that is has lowered your blood pressure is wonderful.

You mention an "EP" doctor. Is that a cardiologist who specializes in the heart rate problems?

Have you ever sought a second opinion from a large, research oriented hospital like Mayo or a university medical center? This might be a good idea to help put your mind at ease. In larger medical institutions they have a lot of specialists that work together and can help figure out more complicated issues.

I look forward to hearing from you as work through this process and I hope that you get answers that you are comfortable with.

Thank you. Yes an EP specializes in the rhythm of the heart. I have gone to Emory Hospital in 2013 but was not having the symptoms I am now. They found nothing at that time. Thank you for your response.

Another visit based on the newer symptoms might be helpful to you now.

I would appreciate hearing back from you and having an update on how you are doing.

Went to the specialist today and he has put me on a 24 hr monitor. Says I’m having PVC’s. Says they are not dangerous but the monitor will show how often they are happening. Will scan post for info on these.

I'm so glad to hear that you are making some progress on a diagnosis, @kgc6671

I'm looking forward to hearing from you again when you get the results. I just finished a 21 day heart monitor. Everything looked fine, I was relieved and I hope you have good results as well.
