How did you know? Aphasia

Posted by decarlo7 @decarlo7, Jul 4, 2018

So I googled trouble recalling words and Aphasia popped up all over. I have migraines pretty severe. I get the botox and the trigger injections. They work somewhat...
I truly believe my migraines are related to either being hit in the front of my head with a baseball bat as a child or hormone imbalance. I've brought this up to my neurologist. He gave me a few works to repeat back which I did no problem. So he just relates it to being busy.

my mri showed a lesion on the left temporal lobe of the brain. My mom had a fever during pregnancy and I also fell hit my head on a tv and got a concussion and soon after had my 1st tonic clonic seizure and was put on tegretol which can damage your liver.I went to the hospital and they did an eeg. The lesion wasn't discovered until I was in my 20's by the mri

I suggest getting an appointment to review the results of the MRI.

I had aphasia from taking topiramate. It is one of the known side effects of it. Search your meds to see if any of them list trouble recalling words as a side effect.

It’s been my experience that most people with Epilepsy especially if on Anticonvulsants have some form and degree of Aphasia. I have anomic aphasia.

@jakedduck1 I took topiramate for depression. Topiramate is used for those with epilepsy, but I do not have it. My aphasia cleared up once I stopped taking it due to doctor's order

@johnhans - thanks for sharing your experience with aphasia as a medication side effect and how it cleared up once you stopped taking the topiramate.

@jakedduck1 - will you share more about your anomic aphasia and how that impacts you?

@12271997 - how is the anomia you mentioned?

@decarlo7 - how are things going with the word recall you were experiencing? What did your doctor say about this?

I think that @hopeful33250 might also like to join this conversation.

Oh yes I am very well acquainted with Topamax. I’ve had Epilepsy over 50 years. It is better known in Epilepsy circles as
Dope-a-max.

Hi Lisa,
My aphasia is mild but when you can’t think of words it’s extremely frustrating whether speaking or writing. Concentration is off too. I rarely have a problem recognizing items but it has happened. I believe these issues began after my first Episode of Status Epilepticus and are related to the length of my seizures and the hundreds of thousands of Anticonvulsants I’ve taken.
I’m believed to have had a stroke eons ago but I disagree. I feel any lesions or shadows on my brain MRI’s and Functional MRI’s are from my Status
and are hotly debated between my docs and myself.
Take care,
Jake
