Unknown medical condition: facial spasms, difficulty walking, fatigue

Posted by africa15 @africa15, May 2, 2018

Hello everyone, just trying to see if anyone has had similar experiences or thoughts on what my symptoms could indicate.

I have now been sick going on 3 months. I first began with Bell’s palsy ( 3rd time now) I also have facial spasms that continue to come and go. A few weeks later I started having difficulty walking. When I would walk my leg would buckle inward. As of a few days ago my right leg has now done the same thing. So now both my legs aren’t functioning properly. I also have fatigue and overall weakness. I have had countless MRI/CT scans and everything comes out remarkable. I have been to several neurologist and neuromuscular specialist and they still have no answer as to what it could be. Can anyone help!??

Welcome @africa15 to Connect. I am volunteer mentor, but am afraid I have no idea what the problem may be, but you will find we will help you find someone who has some similarity to your symptoms. I am going to tag @lisalucier, @johnbishop, @colleenyoung, @travelgirl who are all mentors and are much better at finding other folks who may have some similar experience than I am, so I know there is help on the way. The one thing that I immediately think of is tardive diskinesia that can be caused by certain drugs. Have you started any new medication recently or before these symptoms started to show up? Have you had any significant changes in your environment during this period?
I wish you peace in your search, Gary

Hi @africa15, I have moved your discussion to the Brain & Nervous System group because I think you might find better connections here. Gary brings up a good point. Have you had any recent changes to medications?

Hey y’all! I just got started on antibiotics and anti viral meds, but my symptoms did occur prior to these.

Hi @africa15, I would like to add my welcome along with @gman007 and @colleenyoung. I have no medical training or background and would not want to guess at any diagnosis.

Do you also have pain with the muscle weakness in your legs? Also, do your arms have similar symptoms?

Hoping you find some answers soon.

John

@africaafrica15 Welcome to connect. Everyone brings up great suggestions. Have you hurt your back or have Sciatica problems? You may want to see an orthopedic Dr. Just to see what he says. Cause there are so many things that can cause this to happen.

And in the meantime till the Dr's can conclude the cause of the problems. It is important to have a Dr. suggest exercises, or have you get involved in physical therapy of some sorts. Keeping your leg muscles strong till they figure out the cause, is important so you don't fall?

@africa15, were you prescribed these meds in hopes of alleviating some of your symptoms or for something unrelated?

The neuromuscular prescribed these in hopes of decreasing symptoms. I’m so confused on how these meds are supposed to work if he’s still unsure of exactly what’s going on.

Hello, I have had no previous back injuries or sciatica problems. Everything has been so unexpected. I got sick one day to the next.

@africa15, Here's more information on Bell's Palsy https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/bells-palsy/symptoms-causes/syc-20370028
Your doctor may have prescribed anti-viral medication to see if the symptoms are caused by a viral infection.
