Hard and painful lump inside vagina?

Posted by mxstx @mxstx, Apr 27, 2018

Hello, I’ve recently discovered that I have a hard, slightly moveable lump inside of my vagina. It’s about 2.5 inches in and when feeling around it, I can feel where the lump starts and ends. It’s about the size of a small bouncy ball and I can barely get my finger past it. It’s very sore to the touch and causes pain in my pelvic area. I have not had sex, but I have experimented with sexual toys and found it very difficult and painful to go past this area. I’m curious if this sounds harmless, or if it’s something I should get checked out by my OB/GYN. Thanks in advance!

Hi, @mxstx, and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I can feel that you are perplexed, which is very understandable. @sanv1002 has talked about something similar with a lump inside her vagina, and @travelgirl @hopeful33250 @sueblue @fromwoundedness @pizon and @gailg may also have some thoughts.

Have you considered calling your OB/GYN, then? It might be appropriate in this case, just to be sure to have an accurate diagnosis, @mxstx.

Hello @mxstx

I agree with Lisa. I can understand your concern - I'm sure that any of us would be very worried if we had this type of lump anywhere in our body.

However, at Connect we are not medical professionals, just patients like yourself. Therefore we cannot diagnose your problem.

Please contact a doctor as soon as possible.

I look forward to hearing from you again after your appointment with your doctor.

Hi @mxstx I agree with the ladies above about making an appointment to see a Dr as soon as you can. It can be a number of things. Always best when unsure to seek professional medical advice. Hope you feel better soon. Jackie

Yes, please get it checked out. I had a similar problem and it was an infection in the Barclans gland and antibiotics cleared it up. However, I had let it go too long before exam so I was left with irritation there that lasted a year before subsiding. Go ASAP.

Hi, @mxstx - hope you are doing well. I'm thinking about the hard, slightly moveable lump inside of your vagina you'd talked about, and wondering if you ended up going to the OB/GYN and learning what it was?

I have had the same symptoms, mine was a prolapsed bladder. I had an operation to get it corrected (laproscopically). Little down time and minimal discomfort; some changes in physical activities after surgery, i.e. no more squats and heavy weights. There is an undergarment that can be worn???? There is also a device called Pessars (sp) ??????

Hi, @smiths38 - I actually had the same situation as @astabenno1990 - I had a lump just inside the opening that turned out to be a prolapsed bladder. It eventually protruded outside my body, which finally led to an operation to fix the prolapse.

I wanted to check back with you and see what happened when you called your doctor? How is the lump feeling today?

Hi, @stoligirl - wondering how you are doing? As you responded in a discussion about a hard and painful lump inside the vagina, I'm wondering if you also had this experience at some point?
