Can I go from daily Morphine to pain control from CBD oil

Posted by 1oldcarnut @1oldcarnut, Mar 16, 2018

I am new at this, so please give me some leeway.
I currently take 2 60mg ER morphine with 3 30 mg fast acting for break thru pain. I have been at this amount for at least 6 years now.
There are many problems taking morphine and with the current anti drug climate I am looking for other ways to manage my pain.

My hopes lean in the direction of CBD oil, and I have had some good results with it so far. It probably will work from 50 to 60% of the time.
I am thinking that I can use CBD oil with THC for the times CBD doesn't work by itself.
One hope I have is I will not be as physically dependent on the CBD and THC as I am on Morphine. Maybe even have some normal days.

My question to the group is, Has any one had any experience in this regard? Will the CBD with THC help me with my withdrawal from the morphine?
My actual time on morphine is close to 14 years. The hardest question is will I be jumping from the frying pan to the fire?

I know I am asking a lot but any help or personal experience would be a great help.

I’m curious if we could speak in private about how you did this. What was your regimen? How many mg and how often did you take CBD? I can’t find any info or testimonials from people about how they actually accomplished coming off opioids with the help of CBD oil. Thank you

First of all...big hugs and I hope you find relief. It sounds like it has been a long and frustrating journey for you. I would strongly advise you to talk with your doctor about how to safely decrease your medication. I went through withdrawals myself because I was stubborn...not safe and not worth it. I’m not sure what state you are in, but in MN medical THC as well as the CBD are legal. My doctor gave me a certificate and I paid all the fees to be certified to buy and carry. After months of trying every different level of THC and CBD...I gave up. It didn’t work and it was very expensive. I do know quite a few people that have had success with CBD oil though....hopefully you are one of them. I suggest finding a good quality oil. Talk with you doctor about adding it to the regime your on now....hopefully in time you will be able to use less medication.

Well, I would not doubt it. I started using the oil about a month ago and see the difference. But MORPHINE I just dont know. My doctor put me on morphine and it was the worst withdrawal ever. I lost a Gall Bladder coming off of Morphine

Well if there is any new creditable information regarding using OBD to withdrawal from prescribed opiates, please let us know. Regards.

Hi, I am in MN as well and would really like to see if cbd oil instead of opioids would be an option for me. I am in so much pain all the time and no one can figure out why. It’s just more meds to bandaid the problem but never get to the root of the cause. I think I need to find a legit Lyme doctor maybe. The only problem is the last time I had to renew my pain contract it stated I could not use cbd. So my thoughts are doctors don’t really want us knowing if this will work for us or not.

You are correct, some doctors are for it some against. My therapy office says it’s a big no no, but my family doctor, cardiologist, dermatologist are hung ho for it. If it works why not? It’s better then the pharmaceutical drugs that get you dependent and a killer to go off of.

Good evening, I am in the process of moving from CA to MN in part because MN does have dispensaries for Medical Marijuana. One of the very positive features of the MN program is that you will have a pharmacological specialist who works with you to find the right component dosages. There are 3 product options at this point, one of which is a tincture and is, for me, the best delivery method. In CA you have no "guide" and so must do a lot of experimenting on your own which can be a bit risky as well as expensive. Although the folks at the dispensaries are very helpful...they do not have medical experience.
They just know what others have told them about their experience with different products or what they have read in preparation for their job. You do need to complete an application, have an RX and pay $200. Actually, MN received a national award for medical marijuana research a year or so ago. I have been using only Medical Marijuana for pain control now for several years. My heart just breaks to read the posts from those who are caught in the opioid trap and seeing one of my friends having to be hospitalized for addictive issues was disheartening. Here is the link to the MN site. http://www.health.state.mn.us/topics/ca

BE VERY careful coming off of Morphine. I did not like it and without telling my doctor I went off of it. TWO weeks of hell. And, surgery to remove a Gall Bladder which was damaged. Have your doctor help you off the morphine

The stupidity of some of the States not approving Marijuana is mind boggling. Then you hear people call it DOPE. These are uninformed public. I lived in Oregon and had free access to the Marijuana. Of course the card was expensive every year. But, you know you are getting healthy weed. Before the law was approved to sell Marijuana, I bought mine where ever I could get it. No need for hard drugs. I wish Idaho, Texas would wake up and see the positive benefits. I have RA. I am not taking two kinds of drugs that I would love to throw away and use Marijuana any day/
