~ Feeling a little lighter and having fun ~

Posted by Barb @amberpep, Jan 30, 2018

Well, I think my family really thinks I've gone off the deep end. Maybe they're right, but I'm sure enjoying it. Saturday I pick up Kellar (against my family's advice!), I've had a purple and blue stripe right in the front of my hair for the passed 18 months, and I finally got myself something I always wanted. Way back when I was in 6th or 7th grade, all the girls were wearing "saddle shoes." I desperately wanted a pair .... after a lot of begging, my alcoholic parents finally relented. So, one night, the 3 of us went to a shoestore and I got those saddle shoes ..... BUT the "saddle part" was not black or brown .... instead it was RED PLAID and they had THICK RED FOAM SOLES, obviously making me stand out like a sore thumb. Well, the other day, I ordered a pair of real saddle shoes from Zappos, and they came today. I love them! So, here I am, a 73 year old woman, with purple and blue stripes in her hair, wearing saddle shoes and walking a dog who is probably very long with short legs! I may look like I'm nuts, but I'm sure having fun.

@amberpep It's just wonderful that you are being you. Forget what every one else says! It makes you happy and that's all that counts!!! You are old enough to make your personal choices now!! : D

@amberpep I has taken me over 60 years to cease being a people pleasing person. Not brazen enough to streak my hair as I do not want any one noticing me. I still wear my jeans and those fussy folks that tell me I need to wear nicer clothes and look my age cannot convince me otherwise. I am still wearing clothes from years ago. There are things in life I need more. If it were not for my sense of humor I would have succumbed long ago.

parus ..... hi there ..... don't feel bad ..... I wear either jeans (in my day - dungarees) or sweat pants everyday, unless I'm going somewhere, which is very rare these days. Still better and more peaceful than being with my X-N.

Hi Amber, I have just read all posts/response from you and others and it is just wonderful to read about someone having made it through, over or under many issues and has successfully put it all behind her. You sound like a wonderful woman with much healthy living to look forward to. I hope you enjoy the rest of your life as you are doing now. Continue to have fun! Anne

It's pretty easy to do a selfie. If my click on the camera, you will see a circle of arrows. Click on the arrows and you'll see yourself. Then just press the button and take a picture. In case you don't know, the button is a filled in circle at the bottom in the center.

Jim .... thanks much .... it could be very scary if anyone like my kids saw it. Of course, they all know "Mom's a little off" anyhow. Where did the old, quiet, always appropriate Mom go? Hmmmmmm ....... "her gone!"

Hi Anne .... thank you friend, but I don't want to give you the idea that I'm always "peaches and roses." As those on this Board know, I have some extremely dark days. I have Bipolar 2, but thanks to a good therapist and psychiatrist, I'm pretty stable most of the time. I do like humor and think a lot of things can be looked at lighter .... there's usually some tidbit of silly in situations if we look for it. Now if I could only transfer that to all my inter-actions with my X-N husband!

The lighter side for me is playing with my art which is now play when I am able to so. Just takes longer. I am the comic relief person if cornered in a tense situation which I do my best to avoid. I am moving slower these days. I keep telling myself to "lighten up" on myself. I am known to break out singing an old song to help cheer myself up. Yeah, we all need the "lighter side" at times. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah.
Going to share some of what helps me lighten up and get lost in the world of creativity to escape all types of pain. I must be thinking about sunshine on these wintry gray days. Hope it helps someone else as this is what art is for-I think.

@amberpep Still have a burr under your saddle about that X-N. Can understand why. They are clever tricksters. In time others catch on to their manipulations.
