My story: An "inoperable" brain tumor was surgically removed

Posted by jkenser @jkenser, Jul 26, 2017

Hello everyone. I just wanted to share my story with the group in hopes that maybe it can help someone else that is going through something similar. Please know that I am always here to talk to others that are facing this battle; I know how real that fear can be. My whole goal now is to help others. My story is in the link below. God bless everyone

Thank You for sharing your inspirational story Jessica. I just forwarded it to my sister Jill who flew to Mayo from Atlanta yesterday. She had an appointment with Dr. O'Neill today.

Thank you!! She met with Dr 0'Neill and had another MRI. One of her three new meningiomas has grown 30% in one month. She is supposed to go back to Mayo August 9 to see Dr Burns and may need surgery. I am just so worried about her having surgery out of state and not being able to be there with her. And I worry about possible complications when she is so far from home. Thank you for your support and caring.

Thank you for the update. Dr. Burns is absolutely amazing. Your sister is in the best hands, in the best place. I will keep you all in my prayers. If your sister needs anything please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I am here if she needs to talk and I could be to Mayo clinic in an hour if she needs someone to hold her hand xoxo

Hi Jessica,
Since Dr Burns was on vacation last week when my sister was at Mayo she really was not able to get answers to her many questions should she have to have surgery again when she goes back Aug 9th. How long did you stay in the hospital after your surgery. I realize you live only an hour away but I am trying to get some idea how long my sister will need to remain at Mayo and when she is able to fly back to Atlanta. I also want to be there for her surgery. Her tumor is on the right side behind her ear. That is the one that will probably be removed surgically. Did you require any radiation after your surgery. Thanks so much for your care and support. Sorry about all these questions.
Best Regards,
Nancy

Nancy,
I was discharged home 48 hours after surgery. I had a very blessed recovery. Dr. Burns is the best, she is in great hands. Please do not hesitate to text or call me. If there is anything I can do to help please let me know xoxo

I did not need any radiation or chemo. They were able to remove my entire tumor plus a very large margin around it. My tumor was only 10 mm but they took half of my temporal lobe because we did not know at the time what type of tumor it was.
