Was just diagnosed with glaucoma, need support!
I’ll be 79 in a couple of months and my ophthalmologist just diagnosed my eyes “Primary open-angle glaucoma, bilateral, mild stage”. My eye pressures are borderline high, 22.5 left eye and 21 right eye. Since my dad was blind of glaucoma, the doctor wants me to start using eye drops on my left eye only, so he can compare the result of the drops. After using Travatan Z (free sample bottle from his office) for one month, my left eye pressure went up to 23! He switched me to Latanoprost (Xalatan) with the same direction and recheck one month in July.
I was diagnosed with myopic degeneration or degenerative myopia 9 years ago, I also have bad cataracts. I’m praying that Latanoprost drops will bring my left eye pressure down from 23, so the doctor does not recommend laser or surgery as the next step!!! I don’t heal well; I have very weak immune system. I have Medicare, HMO insurance plan.
I would appreciate so much if you would share any of your experiences of your glaucoma treatment journey and the different types of eye drops that you used!

My eye pressure was 24 in both eyes on latanaprost. My eye doctor said to come back in 1 month for a recheck. In the meanwhile I got a stress test done for my sob and my bp was 205/105. I was put on diltiazem for it. I got a heart catheterization done too. I went back and the recheck was good and the eye doctor said it could have been my high bp causing the high eye pressure.

Sorry to hear about your glaucoma issues. I've been fighting glaucoma for over 30 years now. I'm currently on pilocarpine, dorzolamide, and rocklatan which is keeping pressure about 12-13. But over the years I've had a lot of damage, and am currently conaidered legally blind. The only prize is a parking permit to get closer to places for my wife since I can't drive anymore. I'm 81 now and walk slower and more carefully. Have you been to an eye rsearch center like Bascom Palmer or Wills for an examination and second opinion about treatment?

Thanks for reaching out. Does it progresss as slowly as they say it does? I haven't been anywhere else yet. I'm in Madison, WI actually. I've just seen my optometrist and a University opthamologist. I'm doing lantanaprost and now dorzolamide. I also had a laser treatment on one eye. Has your glaucoma affected both eyes the same?
The progression of glaucoma is different for everyone. I am 75 years old and was diagnosed about 10 years ago. I was put on Latanaprost and Dorzolomide and have had laser procedures done on both eyes. I have only very minor damage to my optic nerve. My pressure in both eyes is normal although at the high end of normal. But I’m fairly confident that my glaucoma will never get bad enough to significantly affect my eyesight. I have an excellent ophthalmologist. Good luck to you!

1 ReactionI don't believe everything I see online, but Dr Berg recommended AC carbamide which is a supplement from standard processing. It helps with fluid levels in general in your body. Some people have seen pressure improvement. It's natural, so I'm going to start taking it to test it out.
I had cataract surgery with MIGS 360 procedure and am now off drops. Doctor thinks there's zero chance of another angle closure

I kept taking combigan for about 6 months when my eyes were red, dry and I couldn't wear contacts. I told my eye dr. I thought I was allergic. They said keep trying it it's a great drug for lowering eye pressure. When I could go back to eye dr (for insurance) he took me off the drops and put me on dorzolamide. Within a week eyes were almost clear and pressures came down. So...maybe you're allergic?
