Protein in spinal fluid

Posted by Ryman @ryman, May 25, 2017

I have no infection in my spinal fluid but some kind of "odd" protein. Should I be concerned? Thankyou

Ryman, how did you find out that you have an "odd" protein in the spinal fluid. Did your neurologist explain what it is and what to do next?

She said there was no infection but some kind of odd protein that she didn't know what was going on there. She didn't seem concerned about it. I have sent a request to her office to get a copy of the spinal report so I can find out more about it. I did read online that some kinds of protein in the spinal fluid could be MS or ALS. So I am a little concerned.

Good for you to request the report to get a clearer understanding of what the protein is. I wouldn't over worry the problem by searching the Internet until you have the report and can search exact terms that apply to you. Keep asking questions. đŸ™‚

Thanks. I really can't search much more until I have the report. My next apt with her isn't till the end of Aug. She is sending me for inner ear tests.

@ryman I agree with Colleen that getting a copy of the report will give you the information that can help you to ask the right questions when you talk with your doctor. Please feel free to run your questions by Mayo Connect members, we have many members who can probably share their own experiences with you. Best wishes! Teresa
