Gosh it would be wonderful if Mayo Clinic could put a web version of this class online. A distance based learning tool could reach folks like me who don't live close enough to attend these programs. I will be watching to see any tips that @lauriedr, @medic7054 and @dawn_giacabazi share of what they learned.

I agree that a web based Pain Management seminar/series would be so helpful. It is just not feasible for most of us to pack up to live in Rochester for three weeks (at our own expense) -- and the 1.5 hour session each week is not very do-able either! I live two hours from the Mayo Clinic and would love to see an online seminar with optional twice a month face-to-face seminars in Rochester. I could easily plan to take two days a month to attend.

A large part of the class is learning how to relax COMPLETLY, something difficult without some coaching. There was physical and occupational therapy, and other things that would be impossible to do as well at home sitting in front of the computer. Additionally, the drug withdrawal monitoring would not work. Missing out interacting with the wonderful staff, being in a class where everyone has the same or worse pain as you, and seeing how the class is affecting their life. Listening to some real heart rendering stories told by classmates puts your pain in perspective. Watching the gradual improvement in your and your classmates overall pain and attitude towards life. I don't think an on-line program would be as effective. Definitely cheaper though. I won't argue that point.

That is good information I didn't have before. Thanks @medic7054

@sandytoes14 Nor do I live close enough. It seems the medical system here is so archaic. I do what I can. I eat only whole foods and avoid refined foods. Will admit there are times I want to eat like others in order to have some social contact. Not worth thus. CBT is helpful. Unfortunately the therapist I have worked with for a while is out of suggestions. Misanthrope, no hope.

My pain doc suggested CBT and a therapist. He is wonderful, but he really hasn't been able to help me as far as managing my pain. He has helped me with other issues. It's been a while since I've seen him. I am thinking about going back because this current situation and pain, as well as my pain doc telling me about how i have to 'live' my life, I am getting depressed. I guess I need to make a phone call.

I also wish they would put it online as Its far away to travel when the money a big obstacle

I can no longer travel much over 15 miles due to physical pain.

This pain robs us of what we want to do.I,M sorry about the traveling I can't either ,today I'm on the couch ,nothing is helping .

@lioness It is said misery loves company. You are not alone. I am wireless now-still clueless though.

@lioness71 I would certainly love to have a online class online itwould be beneficial to us who can't get to a Mayo clinic.
