First Reclast Infusion went well!
I had my first Reclast Infusion on Thursday afternoon. Today is Saturday. So far so good. I was so apprehensive after reading about the possible side effects, but I reread all the info on this site and felt I was prepared. I took Claritan the two evenings before and two nights afterwards. Took Tylenol the night before and for the following days. drank lots of water, some with hydration electrolytes in it. I had a 30 minute infusion and made sure I took it easy for the rest of the day and the next day. I’m hoping that by day 3, tomorrow, I can rest easy that I won’t have any further side effects. Nurse did tell me that when they increased from the 15 to the 30 minute drip the side effect rate plummeted. So very glad for this site and all the info I was able to gather. Thank you ladies!

Did you receive an iv drip for extra hydration prior to recast or just based on you hydrating well on your own. Glad things are going well.

2 ReactionsSo happy for you! It's crazy to think that any infusion center would consider a 15 minute infusion acceptable, but my understanding is that there are several who do it. My endocrinologist warned me about not getting a quick infusion. The hydration, antihistamine, and Tylenol make all the difference, I think. Keep us posted on how you're doing!

1 Reaction@harborside24 And the length of administration, of course.
@osteopatient2026 just hydrated on my own.
I believe the infusion protocol is for no less than 20 minutes …lots of data on the patient improvement of reducing side effects. 30 minutes sounds better.

Why this protocol is not standard practice is beyond me. If it helps to reduce the kind of side effects people are posting here, it seems that following it is a case of "do not harm." I've presented this protocol to my oncologist and PA and hope they will start independently using it with other patients.

3 ReactionsHad Reclast infusion on November 17 and today --going on 4th week, I am still suffering from side effects. The headaches are the worst. Also, my taste buds are affected. I have an after taste no matter what I eat and have indigestion for about 15 minutes after eating a small amount of food. Any suggestions apprecited
What has been your doctor’s response? Have you considered another doctor?
I know where I am there is only one doctor. I would have to travel 2 hours to see another let alone make an appointment but it might be worth another point of view and maybe better expertise in your situation.
@prarysky we need to be our own advocates and insist on the extended drip time until the medical community gets feedback!
