Brinsupri follow-up

Posted by scoop @scoop, Sep 29 12:21pm

It seems a bunch of us have started Brinsupri. Let's use this thread for discussion. If you are taking Brinsupri have you noticed anything different, including changes to bronchiectasis or side effects? How long have you been on it?

Interested in more discussions like this? Go to the MAC & Bronchiectasis Support Group.

I have been on Brinsupri 2 weeks and have a constant headache and now joints are painful. Anyone have this problem?

@renee53 Remain patient with Brinsupri. If you read through this thread you'll see I felt very good weeks 2-3, much less good weeks 7-8 (approx). Now after 10 weeks feeling more like weeks 2-3. They say it takes 3-6 months to stabilize in system. Alas, still at airway clearance 2x day. Good luck.

@scoop Scoop- I haven't done much reading on the Brinsupri. I have not started it nor the antibiotics.
I haven't seen anyone discuss what my thoughts just went to.....Is Brinsupri a medication one stays on for the remainder of their life with having BE, Bronchiectasis???? Do you know, have you read anything about that or has your doctor indicated anything about the time factor.

@blm1007blm1007 Brinsupri is not meant to be a short term fix. One needs to keep taking it to tap down the enzymes that cause inflammation. When other BE drugs become available, perhaps more effective or better suited for someone, then I could imagine Brinsupri would not be life long.

Has anyone noticed an increase in weight since taking Brinsupri. I was wondering becasue I lost weight with MAC and bronchectasis , so if this medicine decreases the severity of the symptoms, will it also bring my appetite back. Thank you to anyone who has been on this long enough to know

@swang18 I hope you’re wrong! But I have also put on a few pounds since starting Brinsupri. I don’t recall reading that weight gain was one of the side effects. The last few months I’ve added quite a bit to my strength training routineand figured it might be that but now I’m not so sure. Time to start counting calories lol

@scoop
Not all side effects would be listed on the label.
Maybe it’s the benefits from BRINSUPRI.

@swang18
If it helps us gain weight that would be a very good thing for most people with BE and MAC etc

It does. Be careful.

My doctor ordered it but have not taken it yet because I am dealing with loss of my husband.

She said I could start it end of the year but Idont know if I will.
Hearing reports of hearing falling out, BP going up and skin cancers.
I have a history of squamoys cell on my nose.

All this for a 20% reduction in symptoms after 1 year!
