Getting dentures

Posted by Barb @amberpep, Mar 19, 2017

Hi all .... well, the procedure to have my teeth removed for dentures, which started last July, 2016, continues. Seems that the roots of my teeth have all demineralized, so when they are taken out, the root crumbles. If they don't get all the shards, they begin to push at the gum and hurt. The last 4 taken out were the bottom 4 small front teeth, about 2 weeks ago. Now they all have a bulge that hurts pushing , and tomorrow I am to go back to have those surgically cut out. I have had this done so often, I could scream. I've been eating soft, pureed, and mashed food since this started. Oh for a great big salad! YUM. So I go tomorrow to get this surgery done and then it will be a full 2 months til the permanent impression can be taken for the permanent teeth. I have temporary top ones, which since the gums have shrunken so much, they are enormous. I have to use so much of that goop on them to keep them in. Anyhow, just guess I wanted to whine .... but I'm totally sick and tired of this whole thing. And, the cost! OMG .... my Dental insurance maxed out and now I have a new bill from the Oral Surgeon for $1600 and I pay $170 each month for the dentist. I have no idea how I am going to pay for all this.
Thanks for listening ....
Abby

Well, I've had these dentures now for almost a year. No matter what I use, Polident goo, or powder, I cannot eat anything firm with them. I have not had a piece of meat in over 2 years (since I started having them removed), I can't eat raw carrots, celery, a bagel. Everything I eat has to be soft. By 6 PM I hate them so much I can't wait to rip them out and put them in their soaking tub. If I had the money I'd have gotten implants, but unfortunately, I don't and never will.

So sorry you are going through all of this. I need to have my bottom teeth pulled but am so afraid of the pain that I cannot put myself through it. I have GERD so unable to take any kind of pain reliever with codeine or morphine in it. Last time I had 1 tooth pulled I was in pain for 2 weeks straight. I even went back to make sure it was not infected or anything was wrong. Nope just me. I have Fibro I believe so I think that has a lot to do with it too. The thought of the pain I will have had me about in tears from the dentist just telling me. I pray you will get through this all and everything will turn out great for you.
