Osteoarthritis at 32 female

Posted by latersbaby15 @latersbaby15, Mar 11, 2017

Prescribed gabapentin 600mg, meloxicam 15mg , hydrocodone 10 4xdaily, naproxen500mg. Last 5 years. None of the meds work. Any suggestions for my doctor? I am also a vet. Thanks for any response..

Hello @latersbaby15, welcome to Connect. Thank you for posting about osteoarthritis and sharing a bit about yourself and the meds that you take. Also, thank you for your service.

I would like to invite @janie56, @janies, @garsoon, @jmaa, @amkaloha, @sma1952, @65742, @boxermomma, @mari, and @lorettabl to the conversation as they have all recently discussed having osteoarthritis and may be able to comment on some of the meds you listed.

@latersbaby15, if you don't mind me asking, what joints do you have osteoarthritis in?

Hello @latersbaby15 and let me add my welcome to Connect and my thanks to you for your service to our country. You say that your current meds are not helping. I was wondering if you have had any physical therapy? Sometimes the combination of meds and PT work well together Was there an injury while in the military that aggravated or caused the osteoarthritis. Hi latersbaby15, I've been there, done that! I don't see tramadol on your list. It's the only one (and I've taken all the ones you listed) that works (at least a little bit) for me. I take 50 mg and the script is for 3x a day but I only take it twice - once in am and one before bed. I still have some pain but if I miss a dose that pain is much more. I take the third in the afternoon on days that I am in more pain. It takes care of the OA I have all over but my knees are shot -- bone on bone -- and there is nothing that helps them. I have to walk with a walker so as not to put all my weight on them. I wish you well and if you find anything else helpful would appreciate your sharing the info. Best to you.

Hi latersbaby15, I didn't have any help from Gabapentin until my Doctor up the dose to 900 mg 3 x's a day. I also take meloxicam 15 mg., tramadol 100 mg. up to 4 x's a day and extra strength Tylenol 1000ng 2 x's@day. I still have some pain from arthritis in my spine but this usually makes it tolerable
