Where do I go next?

I was diagnosed in 1991 at the age of 44. I've been seeing a rheumatologist for many years. My problem is that I can't tolerate Cymbalta or other meds normally prescribed for fibro. My pharmacist told me that I don't metabolize meds rapidly enough so I get objectionable side effects. I was also told to go to PT for that but I don't think many physical therapists understand fibro. What has worked for you?

@bunstuffer There are many things I cannot tolerate either. I tried massage therapy. I would end up coming home in such pain I would be in tears. So I nixed that. My doctors wanted me on antidepressants. None of those work, and most doctors see that on my chart and think I have emotional problems. I have pain problems. Chronic pain can be a cause of depression, but I don't want my doctors to look at me from a mental disability. It is true antidepressants can work for some people, not me. Two things have helped me the most, sleep medication in low dose and exercise. I had to start slowly (in my late 40s) but was in my best shape ever at 51. I started with stretching and floor exercises, then fast walking every day. I also pray while walking, so it has a meditational element. Lastly, because I was left with extreme pain from a cancer operation recently, my heating pad has become my best friend. A month ago I added acupuncture. It has helped ALOT. I had to do self talk to get through all of these steps with much prayer. I know it looks like alot, but these things become a habit when you see the benefits. (At least for me) Start slowly. You are only competing with the pain, no one else. It's personal.
