Replies to "Has anyone had a partial knee replacement? My doctor is suggesting this procedure as the outside..."
I think it would depend on many factors, such as your age, physical condition and current level of activity and expectations for the future. It sounds like your own doctor feels that you are capable of having a good recovery from a partial. How is the wear on your other knee? Just wondering if it is genetic old age wear or perhaps from some earlier knee trauma on the one side. From what I have heard, most partials have to eventually be replaced by full TKR's so some surgeons may not want to bother with them. But if you are active and in good health and on the younger side of, say 70, a partial might be a good choice. See if you can talk though with each doctor their reasons for their recommendations. If you are uneasy, you may need a third opinion.

I had a partial (medial) knee replacement of both left knee in 2008 - did extremely well until 2015 when I had to have a total done.

I've had TKR on both knees, one turned out O.K., the other is still not right even with a revision.
I'd just like to address Doctor's diagnosis and opinions. My experience following eight years of seeing many different doctor's for my bad knee is that the more doctor's you see the more opinions you'll get. I'm convinced they perform surgical procedures as they are taught in medical school but if the surgery fails they grope for answers but ultimately you're on your own.
Best wishes on whatever you decide, and remember the success rate odds are in your favor.
